Description of Work

Want to work at the world’s largest natural-habitat zoo?
The North Carolina Zoo is growing and seeking a dependable Electrician to join our Preventative Maintenance and Electrical (PM&E) team. You’ll install and upgrade electrical circuits and troubleshoot issues across the Zoo, helping keep our habitats and facilities powered and running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
• Install, upgrade, and ensure all electrical work complies with NEC and State Electrical Standards.
• Run conduit, pull wire, and install new 1 phase and 3 phase circuits, including control circuits such as timers and thermostats.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and interpret electrical prints, schematics, and codes.
• Assist other trades (HVAC, Plumbing, etc.) with electrical support as needed.
• Follow all PPE and safety protocols while maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and support overall shop organization.

  • North Carolina Electrical License

  • 5 years experience in electrical field journeyman level.

  • Commercial electrical experience a must.

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am – 4pm

  • Job offer is contingent upon passing a pre-employment screen conducted by assigned provider.  

  • This position is designated as Essential/Mandatory and is required to work adverse weather events and may be called to work special events.

  • Must be able to work a weekend and holiday on-call or onsite rotation schedule including assisting Incident Command for emergencies if called upon.

  • Required to participate in the zoo's occupational health program.

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, move over and about all types of equipment to inspect, analyze and perform repairs, work in tight spaces, stand for the majority of the day, endure extended outdoor field conditions at any time of the year, negotiate uneven outdoor terrain on foot, hear and respond to radio communication, and drive motor vehicles at day and at night.

  • Must be able to perform work in confined spaces such as filter pits, vaults, sumps, tanks, and mechanical rooms in accordance with safety protocols

  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Sign On Bonus Eligibility

Employee eligible for a sign-on must work at least 20 hours per week.
