Position Summary

The Retail Development Manager at Michael Kors Japan is responsible for the planning and execution of new store openings across full‑price and outlet channels. This role works closely with both external partners and internal teams to drive sustainable business growth, enhance profitability, and support organizational development.

By delivering strategic, well‑analyzed store opening plans, this position ensures consistency across all channels and store formats, contributing directly to the brand’s success in the Japanese market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate potential new store locations, including feasibility and business case analysis
  • Negotiate commercial terms with department stores, shopping centers, and developers (strong department store network preferred)
  • Lead and manage new store opening projects in coordination with construction, interior design, fixture, and vendor teams through to store opening
  • Drive relocation, expansion, and renovation projects for existing stores
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis and develop strategic store opening plans
  • Partner cross‑functionally with internal teams such as Retail, Finance Planning (FP), and Operations (OL) to ensure smooth project execution
  • Prepare sales forecasts, KPI projections, and internal approval documents related to store openings

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Ability to work from the Tokyo office
  • Strong PC skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • 3+ years of experience in retail store development (FP / OL experience preferred)
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (preferred)
  • English proficiency is a plus
