OVERVIEW
US Foods is building a next-generation Inside Sales team to engage, grow, and retain customers across the country. This Inside Sales/Flex Sales Representative role combines proactive outbound prospecting with strategic inside account management for small- and medium-sized independent operators who prefer a lighter-touch, remote relationship model.

This position is ideal for sales professionals who are highly motivated, self-directed, and skilled at balancing pipeline growth with maintaining strong customer relationships. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong sales acumen, instinct for the customer, proficiency with CRM (customer relationship management) tools, and the ability to drive both new and existing account performance from a centralized office environment.

Schedule

This role will be onsite 5 days a week (Monday - Friday) in Rosemont, IL

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

ACCOUNT PROSPECTING

  • Conduct 15+ outbound calls per day to primarily independent restaurant prospects, using CRM and dialer tools to build and maintain a robust sales pipeline

  • Identify, qualify, and convert new opportunities through pitching, active listening, counseling, and effective objection handling

  • Partner closely with Marketing, Sales Enablement, and IT teams to refine targeting and improve lead quality

  • Maintain meticulous CRM (Salesforce) records of call activity, outcomes, and next steps

  • Support onboarding of new customers and ensure a smooth handoff between Inside Sales and Field Sales teams, when appropriate

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT AND RETENTION

  • Own and grow assigned customer relationships for a defined portfolio of primarily small- to medium-sized independent restaurant customers

  • Conduct regular account calls (via phone) to cover needs, assess satisfaction, identify growth /cross-sell/upsell opportunities, and proactively address service or product concerns

  • Develop and execute customer-specific strategies to drive product and category penetration, optimize profitability, and foster customer loyalty

  • Communicate market trends, new products, and promotional opportunities to assigned accounts

  • Manage pricing conversations and coordinate with cross-functional partners (Credit, Operations, Replenishment, etc.) to resolve administrative issues efficiently

  • Monitor customer purchasing patterns and retention metrics to anticipate needs and mitigate churn

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize CRM to track and record all customer communications and touchpoints

  • Engage internal stakeholders to address customer challenges, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction

  • Provide feedback on sales processes, scripts, and systems to continuously improve team performance

  • Provide feedback on account segmentation approach to ensure the highest-quality leads are being funneled to the right initial outreach channel (inside sales vs. outside sales)

  • Execute key company initiatives and contribute to sales strategy and tactical planning as requested

TRAINING/COACHING

  • Supports other team members by sharing best practices resources, actively participating in virtual team training activities, and providing constructive feedback, if requested

  • Attends weekly huddles with eagerness to learn and independently seeks to apply new learnings

  • Solicits and responds well to coaching and feedback provided in 1:1 sales planning calls and virtual work-withs; actioning feedback into improvement quickly

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Update Individual Development Plan and prepare for check-ins with respective leaders

  • Engage in formal US Foods performance management process

  • Strive to learn and benchmark against industry trends (e.g., Engage in industry peer groups)

  • Pursue other personal learning and development initiatives (e.g., LinkedIn learning, ERG memberships, etc.)

SUPERVISION:

  • N/A

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Internal: Work closely with Local Sales Leadership, Customer Contact Team, and Operations teams

  • External: Customer contacts for all assigned accounts

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Onsite: The associate in this role is expected to perform assigned responsibilities inside a US Foods office-based environment.

  • On-site at Rosemont, IL Headquarters, 5 days per week.

  • Professional call-center-style environment with CRM, phone, and digital tools

  • Frequent collaboration with sales enablement, marketing, and field sales teams

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years in a customer-facing sales role (inside or field sales)

  • Demonstrable success in prospecting, account management, and achieving sales goals

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to balance prospecting and account service

  • Analytical mindset with comfort using data and trends to identify growth opportunities

  • Self-motivated, ambitious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment

  • Comfortable with video conferencing and digital engagement tools (Teams, Zoom, dialers)

  • Collaborative approach and adaptability to cross-functional teamwork

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills 

  • Ability to self-prioritize workload, meet deadlines and follow through on commitments 

  • Proficient computer skills; Microsoft Office products  

  • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM systems
