Job Description

Career Area:

Procurement

Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other.  We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

As a Manager in Product Procurement, you will lead the delivery of a lean, responsive, and resilient flow of materials and services that enables facility and product success. You will serve as a trusted procurement business partner to your division/business unit—bringing strong supply market expertise, driving supplier collaboration, and translating product needs into executable value chain strategies.

What makes this role exciting:

This role supports some of the most complex and high‑impact products in the portfolio, where procurement decisions directly influence performance in the field. You will have meaningful ownership over supply base selection for large, highly engineered mining equipment, partnering closely with product groups as they design, develop, and enhance performance across the full machine lifecycle. With broad visibility and influence across suppliers, product development, and execution, the role offers a rare level of scope and control, connecting procurement strategy to real‑world outcomes on equipment that operates in the most demanding environments.

What you will do:

  • Own the relationship between procurement and the division/business unit, representing supply management and advising leaders on supply markets and supplier capabilities.

  • Lead a team responsible for defining/approving product and component collaboration strategies, network design and governance, and procurement alignment from the supply side.

  • Negotiate and align service level agreements (SLAs) that support business needs and operational performance.

  • Provide leadership for make/buy decisions and support New Product Introduction (NPI) execution to meet product group targets.

  • Leverage procurement knowledge to help product groups develop optimal, executable value chains that balance cost, quality, delivery, and resilience.

  • Lead and deploy key projects (including NPI execution) to achieve product group goals and improve outcomes across the supply network.

What skills you will have:

Procurement Function

  • Apply knowledge of procurement responsibilities, governance, and organizational structure to execute procurement activities effectively

  • Ensure alignment to procurement standards, policies, and business requirements

Problem Solving

  • Identify, analyze, and resolve operational, organizational, or process issues using structured problem‑solving techniques

  • Evaluate alternatives, risks, and impacts to drive practical solutions

Effective Communications

  • Communicate clearly and persuasively across written, verbal, and presentation formats

  • Influence and align stakeholders through concise, audience‑appropriate messaging

Supplier Management – Manufacturing (MFG)

  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure performance against delivery, quality, and service expectations

  • Address supplier issues and support supplier selection and ongoing collaboration

Decision Making and Critical Thinking

  • Analyze data, assess trade‑offs, and apply sound judgment to make timely, informed decisions

  • Balance risk, cost, and business priorities when evaluating options

Stakeholder Management

  • Identify and engage stakeholders based on needs, expectations, and business impact

  • Build trust and collaboration across cross‑functional and external partners

Top candidates will also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree desired

  • Experience leading product procurement or strategic sourcing in manufacturing/industrial environments

  • Demonstrated success with make/buy, supplier collaboration, and value chain strategy execution

  • Strong background negotiating service level agreements (SLAs) and supplier performance commitments

  • Program/project leadership tied to New Product Introduction (NPI) or major product changes

  • Experience leading teams through change while improving responsiveness, resilience, and flow in the supply network
