Senior Engineer to serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for motors. The Motor SME provides technical support for operations, maintenance, and project activities for motors across multiple geographic regions. The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.
The Motor SME serves as the top level of technical authority across RRE, providing oversight and guidance to station and regional engineers and technologists in all areas of motor operations and maintenance. The Motor SME develops and reviews specifications for new equipment, reviews test results, supports troubleshooting efforts, and develops and assesses reliability strategy for motor assets across all RRE regions. The Motor SME produces technical documentation (standards, guidelines, procedures) in support of design, operations, and maintenance of RRE's motor assets. The Motor SME engages with external service providers to provide guidance on repair and replacement activities, ensuring that Duke Energy standards are consistently applied.
Basic / Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering
6 years work experience
Proficient in practices of researching design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Additional Desired Qualifications
Proficient in engineering theories and principles
Proficient in principles of project management
Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
Experience in the utility industry
Experience with motors:
Analysis of on-line and off-line electrical test results (e.g. insulation resistance, motor current signature analysis)
- Review of repair plans and activities
- Knowledge of motor design and construction
Working Conditions
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Incumbent May be based within a reasonable commute to any Duke Energy facility within the Duke Energy Footprint.
- This position will support generation facilities of all technologies (coal, gas, renewable) in all of Duke Energy's operating regions.
Routine travel within the home region will be required (~5-10%). Occasional travel to other regions and outside Duke Energy territory (e.g. Motor Shop visits) will be required (<5%)
Specific Requirements
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
