AltaGas - Operator Tech 4, RIPET

Join the AltaGas team at the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET), located approximately 10 km south of Prince Rupert. This world-class facility receives pressurized liquid propane via rail, transfers it to intermediate storage, chills it, and loads it onto Very Large Gas Carriers for export to Asia and other global markets.

Reporting to the Lead Operator and taking day-to-day direction from the Operator Tech 3, this role is responsible for safely managing the day-to-day operations related to offloading LPG railcars and supporting terminal activities. This position is part of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU), Local 523B, and is embedded within the Prince Rupert community.

You Will:

  • Safely manage day-to-day terminal operations, particularly the offloading of LPG railcars
  • Ensure the safety of personnel, contractors, and customers at all times
  • Adhere to all AltaGas policies, standards, procedures, and practices
  • Identify and mitigate risks; consult with senior personnel when required
  • Participate as an active member of the Emergency Response Team, including fire/spill response
  • Report and investigate safety incidents
  • Perform railcar inspections to confirm mechanical integrity prior to transfer
  • Sample railcar contents and record chromatograph readings and operating conditions (pressure, temperature, levels)
  • Execute railcar unloading procedures and confirm completion
  • Complete all required documentation related to offloading activities
  • Conduct track inspections and railcar inspections
  • Perform minor facility maintenance and general housekeeping duties
  • Support senior operators and assist with additional plant activities as needed

You Have:

  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a railcar loader/offloader 
  • Railcar Safety & Securement certification 
  • Track Inspection Level II certification 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate terminal equipment 
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and active participation in safety initiatives 
  • Ability to participate in Emergency Response Team activities 
  • Gas plant or power generation experience considered an asset 
  • Must meet physical requirements of the role 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required 
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug, alcohol, and fitness testing (safety-sensitive position

We offer a competitive salary range of $48.37/ hour for this position, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. AltaGas is also proud to provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
