A Day in the Life
This Principal Process Engineer will utilize injection molding expertise to lead process development technical work on the New Product Development (NPD) programs within the MECC R&D organization, which is a part of the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Operating Unit (OU).At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. In-person exchanges are invaluable to our work. We are working onsite a minimum of 4 days per week at the MECC site in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Develop, implement, and sustain manufacturing processes and equipment for Medtronic’s cardiovascular and neurological product portfolio, including injection molding, welding, automated inspection, and assembly
- Plan and execute engineering studies to define and optimize process inputs that achieve required outputs and performance
- Lead the innovation, development, and optimization of manufacturing concepts, processes, and procedures to enable scalable, long‑term production. This includes feasibility assessments, material selection, process and equipment development, tooling and fixture design, test method development, equipment installation, and performance qualification
- Collaborate with cross functional teams including product design, development, operations, and quality to execute New Product Development (NPD) programs
- Recommend and implement process and equipment improvements to meet quality standards and enhance production efficiency, manufacturing capability, and yield for existing products
- Provide technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area
- Coach and mentor engineers on injection molding best practices, including process development and production troubleshooting
- Document, communicate, and present technical learnings and results to project and functional teams
- Ensure all processes and procedures comply with applicable regulatory and quality system requirements
Nice to Have: Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in injection molding process development and production troubleshooting for medical devices (or other small size, high precision, regulated industries)
- Strong background in manufacturing/operations role across multiple manufacturing technologies
- Experience working from process development through design transfer
- Working knowledge and experience with FEA and CAD
- Strong knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE) and familiarity with Minitab or JMP
- Experience utilizing problem solving methodologies and ability to lead a problem-solving team (eg. DFSS, DRM, or DMAIC)
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Mechanical, Biomedical, Injection Molding, or Plastics Engineering preferred)
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, OR PhD and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
