Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?

The Position

As an intern, you will contribute to a project focused on making large-scale analytics workloads more sustainable by developing AI-driven insights for computing on Snowflake. The project aims to estimate the carbon footprint of analytics workloads, identify inefficient and high-impact queries, and turn usage data into practical recommendations that improve both environmental and operational efficiency. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help deliver an analysis of Snowflake usage data, a prototype dashboard or tool to visualize carbon impact, AI-assisted optimization insights, a pilot demonstration, and documentation for scaling the approach. Your work will support climate change mitigation by helping teams reduce the energy and emissions associated with cloud-based data processing. This internship offers a unique opportunity to combine sustainability, analytics, and AI in a highly relevant real-world use case.

The Opportunity

  • Extract and analyze compute usage data from Snowflake, including query history, warehouse usage, runtime, data scanned, and compute credits

  • Develop a methodology to estimate the carbon footprint of analytics workloads based on compute consumption

  • Identify high-impact and inefficient queries that contribute disproportionately to compute usage

  • Build a prototype dashboard or application to visualize carbon impact across queries, users, teams, or workloads

  • Apply AI, machine learning, or LLM-based techniques to analyze SQL queries and generate optimization recommendations

  • Validate findings through a pilot use case on selected datasets, teams, or Snowflake environments

  • Document the methodology, assumptions, and limitations of the carbon estimation approach

  • Prepare a final report and presentation with key insights, optimization opportunities, and recommendations for scaling

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Bachelor’s or Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Proficient in SQL and experienced in querying and analyzing large-scale datasets

  • Familiar with Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms such as BigQuery or Redshift, and able to use R for data analysis and prototyping

  • Experienced with data visualization tools such as Shiny dashboards; basic knowledge of AI or machine learning for pattern detection is an advantage

  • A structured and analytical problem solver with strong attention to detail and the ability to turn findings into practical recommendations

  • A collaborative and independent communicator with strong English skills and a genuine curiosity for sustainability and AI

If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
