Application Developer Specialist

PPG is seeking an Application Developer Specialist to join our Corporate Digital team and help build the next generation of cloud native solutions that power science and technology color capabilities across the globe. This is an exciting opportunity for early career developers who want to grow their skills on a modern tech stack leveraging AI enabled development tools while contributing to the digital transformation of a global company. In this role, you will develop and enhance applications built on Azure and AWS, using tools and frameworks such as .NET, Angular, and SQL Server. You’ll collaborate closely with technical experts, color scientists, and business partners to deliver high impact digital tools used across PPG. You will work hybrid, with three days onsite at the nearest PPG technology center, reporting to the Digital S&T Color Manager.

You will be part of a forward leaning digital group that values curiosity, continuous learning, and modern engineering practices leverage AI technologies. You will gain hands on experience in a dynamic and meaningful domain.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the analysis, design, development, and implementation of business applications as part of a collaborative project team
• Use LLM enabled tools to improve development quality, speed, and maintainability
• Collaborate with customers, staff, IT colleagues, and stakeholders to define detailed requirements and system interfaces, assess available technologies, and build effective technical solutions
• Maintain awareness of current IT projects within PPG and planned projects in their own IT group to promote application sharing
• Maintain knowledge of various business processes used by systems applications and participate in business support planning
• Research and evaluate software tools and technologies, recommending options that add value
• Understand and articulate the value of emerging technologies and coding languages to the larger IT organization
• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and solution designs
• Perform feasibility studies, define application scope and objectives, and implement complete solutions
• Prepare detailed specifications that guide development activities
• Propose innovative approaches that strengthen performance, reliability, and security
• Ensure applications comply with architectural standards and established methodologies
• Create, modify, and test programming code or provide technical consulting support
• Oversee creation of source code, operations, and user documentation
• Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance requests or application issues

Qualifications

• A four-year degree or higher in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Chemistry, a related discipline, or equivalent technical training/experience
• 3+ years of experience in IT or related roles 
• Strong skills in managing application design and prioritizing project work
• Understanding of the Agile development methodology
• Familiarity with using LLMs to support development tasks 
• Maintain good relationships with customers and IT colleagues
• Ability to coach or mentor other team members
