Your role and responsibilities
Responsible for leading the ABB BA product hardware R&D team and driving systematic, structured planning and delivery of building automation systems and products. Core responsibilities include hardware team management, cross-functional organizational coordination, NPI project management, and architecture-level technical decision-making.

This role is contributing to the Smart Building division in China.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Lead and manage the BA hardware R&D team (including 3 direct reports and cross-functional matrix members); establish clear team goals and individual development plans to build a cohesive, high-performance hardware development team. Drive systematic coaching, task allocation, and performance management to continuously unlock team potential and develop talent pipelines.
Adopt a system architect's perspective to conduct full-chain technical planning for BA products (thermostats, smart sensors, actuators, HVAC DDC controllers, IoT devices, gateways, etc.); structurally decompose product requirements, define hardware architecture and technical roadmaps. Leverage structured thinking to establish product development frameworks and standards, proactively identify and mitigate architecture-level risks, and provide systematic assurance for parallel multi-product-line execution.
Serve as the core hardware R&D interface across product management, software, testing, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams; drive resource integration and efficient cross-departmental collaboration. Lead end-to-end NPI project management, including milestone planning, critical path tracking, and delivery risk control to ensure on-time, on-quality, on-budget delivery.
Lead and review electronic hardware design (schematics, PCB layouts); drive implementation of innovative electronic design solutions. Identify technical bottlenecks, propose and execute improvements to continuously strengthen product technical competitiveness.
Define verification test schemes per product specs and international standards; collaborate with testing teams on R&D verification. Partner with process engineering on production verification tests, systematically resolve technical issues from production and market, produce standardized technical documentation, and establish a traceable quality control loop.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor degree or above, major in IoT, electronic or automatic technology related professional
- Bachelor's degree or above in power electronics, electrical engineering, automation, or computer science; 5+ years of electronic hardware development experience. Prior experience with ABB BA building control products, smart sensors, or IoT products is preferred.
- Strong expertise in digital and analog circuit design, with rich MCU/embedded system development experience; proficient in EDA tools (Altium Designer, Cadence, PADs) for schematic and PCB design; able to independently perform hardware debugging and testing.
- Familiar with CE, CB, TUV and other international certification standards and rectification processes; experienced in EMC design, safety regulations, and relevant test standards; familiar with electronic product manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience managing hardware R&D teams of 3+, with demonstrated ability to set clear team goals and individual development plans, motivate team members, and build a positive engineering culture. Track record of leading teams to overcome challenges and deliver results under resource-constrained conditions.
- Exceptional ability to think systematically and structurally — capable of decomposing complex product requirements into clear technical architecture and actionable plans. Able to conduct technology roadmap planning and prioritization from a holistic perspective, and effectively manage parallel multi-product-line development risks.
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills, able to efficiently integrate resources across product management, software, testing, process engineering, and supply chain. Solid project management capability with familiarity in NPI processes — experienced in leading project planning, milestone tracking, and risk management to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in both Chinese and English, able to collaborate directly with international teams. Strong learning agility and pragmatic mindset; able to maintain a proactive, positive attitude under pressure and continuously drive technical innovation and business breakthroughs.
- Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.
Outstanding cross-functional communication and organizational coordination skills — able to bridge hardware, software, product, manufacturing, and supply chain teams effectively.
