Job Description

An exciting career awaits you

At MPC, we’re committed to being a great place to work – one that welcomes new ideas, encourages diverse perspectives, develops our people, and fosters a collaborative team environment.

Position Summary

The NGL Trading Analyst supports the Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) commercial team by providing commercial, market, and analytical insights across domestic trading lines of business. This role works closely with traders, Supply Trading Specialist, schedulers, BP&A and plant personnel who execute physical purchases, sales, buy-sells, and exchanges for propane, normal butane, isobutane, and naphtha, produced at Marathon’s refinery and fractionation assets coast-to-coast.

This position is a growth opportunity for a highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills and a clear interest in a commercial or trading career. The Trading Analyst will develop a deep understanding of NGL supply, demand, and market fundamentals while performing a critical function on a fast-paced and expanding team.

While the role primarily supports Denver and Findlay based Supply Trading Specialist , the broader NG/NGL/Petrochemical analyst team is distributed across multiple corporate offices. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and demonstrates strong communication, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.  While the focus of this role is NGL trading activities, a successful candidate will have exposure to members of the natural gas and petrochemical trading teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and reporting on MPLX G&P producer/equity NGL production to depict profitability of Marketing and Scheduling’s activities.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders and service providers.
  • Developing and analyzing economic models for current and new areas/markets of expansion, which support current MPLX G&P assets.
  • Researching and maintaining current and historical market intelligence including, but not limited to, industry pricing, market conditions, industry and infrastructure developments, and alternative options and economics.
  • Coordinating supply and demand forecasts for NGL products to provide better visibility for management.
  • Working with Traders, Schedulers and Plant personnel to develop and execute sales allocation planning as necessary.
  • Guiding the Traders as they work closely with back-office to ensure adherence to controls as defined by Risk and Credit Management Policy.
  • Assisting NGL Trading, back-office administration, and accounting personnel in addressing any concerns with respect to movement, pricing, accounting, and credit and contract compliance issues.
  • Coordinating the Business Plan/Budget for the Marketing and Scheduling organization as well as any other financial forecasting.
  • Developing, benchmarking, and monitoring the Scorecard KPI’s that will be shared with G&P leadership.
  • Facilitating the review and development of a Customer Relationship Management platform.
  • Assisting with Strategic Planning Sessions.
  • Ability to communicate and adapt to operational issues at MPLX’s fractionation facilities, which on occasion occur outside of normal business hours.
  • Carrying out a wide variety of special analysis and administrative duties and they arise.
