About the Role:

Job Summary

Responsible for the development and execution of public relations and marketing for Northeast Georgia Health System. Works independently, providing PR guidance to executive leaders, service line directors, managers and physicians and determining strategy for marketing and promotion to help achieve volume goals for multiple accounts/departments. Thinks critically to identify and initiate opportunities for integration into service area communities. Develops and implements documented marketing plans in collaboration with other PR/Marketing staff members, Planning and Regional Network Development staff, and tracks data to report results and improve campaign performance. Responsibilities may also include serving as lead proofreader for the Public Relations team to maintain standard voice for the system, informally mentoring and advising other team members, serving as the primary department contact for media relations and more. Will also assist with the coordination of hospital publications, development of special purpose brochures, coordination of special events and health education programs and effectively maintaining the organization's brand. Should excel in writing for web, social media, and the press; distilling complex messages and tailoring for various audiences; producing video content; managing budgets; strategy development and campaign design and execution. 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in a communication related field

  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in a position with relatable skills; knowledge of healthcare industry, the Atlanta market and Epic electronic medical record are all extremely beneficial .Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as web content management.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in designing and executing creative advertising (online and traditional) and public relations strategies

  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, multi-task and prioritize with little or no supervision. 

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and have a strong work ethic.

  • Strong writing skills across all media (print, web, presentations, etc.), as well as expert proofreading skills

  • Knowledge of online advertising and promotion (social media, online advertising, search engine optimization)

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Good media relations skills, including crisis management and knowledge of AP Style

  • Attention to detail and follow-through; budget management skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge of design principles and creative concepts to coordinate with graphic designers to ensure effective design of brochures, ads, publications, signs, etc.

  • Skill in ensuring complex messages are delivered clearly and effectively.

  • Skill in developing strategic relationships with influential members of the community through organizations such as chambers of commerce, Rotary, schools, etc. to drive business relationships and referrals

  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and direct experience working within healthcare is extremely beneficial - especially related to the Atlanta market, strategic planning and development, physician relations, etc.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Define, develop and execute strategy for advertising, public relations and media relations on behalf of multiple accounts/departments, handling the needs of those accounts/departments simultaneously within assigned deadlines.

  • Work closely with leaders at the highest levels in the organization, guiding complex projects to shape and influence strategy.

  • Develop creative concepts to effectively support business growth strategies and priorities, working with in-house resources and outside companies to create effective online, video, audio, print, and other advertising, marketing and communication pieces.

  • Negotiate and buy media placements (online paid search and display campaigns, print ad space, radio spots, television commercials, etc.)

  • Write content and act as editor for publications, online content and other communication materials in accordance with assigned deadlines.

  • Develop strategic relationships with media outlets and coordinate media relations, including releasing patient information, in accordance with hospital policy. Write and distribute news releases and proactively pitch stories to media.

  • Coordinate speaking opportunities and health education events.

  • Keep PR Director and Manager abreast of specific issues arising within service lines which may require intervention by Director or other management.

  • Lead crisis communications in absence of department leadership.

  • Mentor or train team members.

  • Coach leaders and physicians, writing media responses and speeches as needed for media inquiries, speaking opportunities and health education events.

  • Identify opportunities and help define strategy to grow referrals and increase patient volumes.

  • Manage complex political relationships to foster optimal business growth for the health system, keeping PR Director and Manager abreast of issues which may require intervention.

  • Provide timely, accurate data that proves success and return-on-investment of promotional activity that helps providers and practices achieve budgeted patient volumes.

  • Establish, review and update standard work procedures for advertising, marketing and public relations.

  • Manage media inquiries and serve as primary contact for media representatives.

  • Serve as primary contact for after-hours and weekend specialist needs.

  • Proofread and edit documents for the department to maintain standard voice.
