Tunista Construction delivers heavy civil contracting services throughout Washington State, building a strong reputation with major government agencies and private clients. What can you expect?
As the Project Coordinator, you will work onsite in Federal Way, WA and will be responsible for supporting the civil construction projects and team, while always cultivating and maintaining positive business relationships. This position includes but is not limited to project documentation controls, project setup and cost accounting. You will perform a wide variety of high-level administrative construction tasks and project engineering duties to support the coordination of construction projects from inception to completion. This position has opportunities for growth and career pathways into leadership roles in projects and other departments.
How will you do it?
- Interpret plans and contract terms including job cost coding.
- Ensure that field activities adhere to contract plans, specs, and company policies.
- Perform duties as liaison with construction managers and other contacts to facilitate project objectives.
- Coordinate work schedule, communications, and work activities with job subcontractors.
- Complete daily project reporting that includes cost analysis, timekeeping, environmental and permit compliance, daily reports, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, quantities, and safety program documentation.
- Coordinate project activities between office management and field management.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination among all project participants.
- Ensure compliance with current project schedule and project completion documentation.
- Work with Cost Accounting to manage the financial aspects of the contract to protect company interest and maintain good relations with customers.
- Determine supplies and materials needs to complete projects and requisition same.
- Formulate reports including work progress and cost schedules.
- Assist in negotiation and buyout of subcontractors and vendors.
- Represent company in project meetings as needed.
- Assist Project Manager with day-to-day project operations.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Functions:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software and word processing software. Microsoft packages preferred.
- Ability to learn costing and accounting procedures.
- Ability to learn computer-based construction and scheduling programs.
- Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with employees, business partners, and clients via written and verbal communication methods.
- Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with employees, business partners, and customers in a friendly and positive manner.
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
- Ability to use judgment and discretion.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Ability to work on project site approximately 80%.
- Work requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Who is Tunista Construction looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
- A college degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is required; however, comparable experience will be considered as a substitute.
- Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar role preferred.
Working Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level and working conditions are consistent with those of typical construction jobs. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

- 10 Regular Holidays, 1 Bonus – Work Anniversary “Floating” Holiday. Eligible after 1 year of service, must be taken within the calendar year.
