**THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN DISTRICT 5 – WILKES COUNTY AND SUPPORTS SURROUNDING AREAS/DISTRICTS**


The Driver Education Program Specialist will train and certify school bus drivers in the classroom and behind the wheel.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
• teaching safe driving procedures for school bus driver defensive driving courses
• driver improvement clinics
• conducting vision and medical screenings for driver education classes


This position will also provide training and certification for commercial driver training instructors, as well as inspecting commercial driver training schools and vehicles for compliance with state and county laws. The Driver Education Program Specialist will investigate complaints involving commercial driver training schools.

The Driver Education Program Specialist will maintain all work-related reports and files as well as complete the required weekly reports that are submitted to DMV’s central office.
Please note – the selected candidate will be subject to a criminal background and motor vehicle records check.


The program area for this position includes the following: experience training and teaching, auditing experience, bus driving experience, working knowledge of DMV or Federal computer programs , and/or experience inspecting vehicles for CDL law

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC12/ $47,703.00-$83,479.00

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience providing instruction in a classroom setting
  • Experience developing and/or revising lesson plans
  • Experience completing and maintaining reports/files
  • Experience with Microsoft applications
  • Previously or currently possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a P (Passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements for at least 2 years

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
