About this role
Dow Plastics Additives (DPA) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Technical Service & Development Scientist, based in Shanghai Dow Center. This role supports the growth of Dow Plastics Additives Business in Thermoset, Acrylics and New Business Development platforms across APAC region.
In this fast-paced and customer-facing technical role, you will be closely collaborating with R&D, Sales, Marketing, and Product Management Teams to drive customer and application growth, leveraging technical expertise to win in highly competitive markets. We are looking for a growth-oriented, opportunity-driven technical professional who drives ideas to execution.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical service and development activities for Thermoset, Acrylics and New Business Development platforms across APAC region with customer centric focus.
- Manage customers and channels through their requests, needs and technical problems.
- Partner with Commercial Team to support business growth at customer sites, retain existing share, and develop new customers or applications through trials, troubleshooting, technical validation and understanding competitive technologies.
- Maintain strong communication and alignment with Commercial and Product Management Teams to ensure project priorities and opportunity pipelines are well managed. Represents TS&D in Market Management Team and Market Implementation Teams.
- Apply scientific methodologies by preparing experimental plans and using relevant test methods to develop results which provide insights into application performance. Communicate the plan with technicians and provide guidance to run the studies.
- Identify and assess new application opportunities, convert qualified leads into projects, and manage stage gates. Drive Leads and CRM projects success to contribute innovation opportunities and innovation metrics.
- Demonstrate documentation practices such as call presentation preparation, call reports, CRI’s, ICD’s and maintain awareness of application IP to protect know-how and support compliant development.
- Build relationships internally with different Dow businesses and externally to find solutions for our customers, especially new business development areas.
- Represent Dow externally via presenting to customers at tradeshows and conferences.
- Model safe practices and adhere to company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements in all activities.
- Provide support to Jurong Island Plant Acrylic and MBS Asset as Product Responsible Person. Lead troubleshooting across formulation, scale-up, and production; apply root-cause analysis to resolve technical challenges efficiently.
Qualifications
- Education: MSc or PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer Modification, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in application development with strong technical service background.
- Communication: Ability to work effectively in English both speaking and writing with clear and structured communication skills.
- Mobility: Willing to travel 25% within APAC Region, mostly in China.

- Technical Leadership: Ability to guide technical direction for projects and influence outcomes through expertise. Proactively drive projects and opportunity pipelines with autonomy; sustain momentum to deliver results. Think outside of the box to innovate, develop new approaches and solutions to customer needs and technical challenges. High interest in new application exploration.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong formulation and polymer processing expertise, and ability to learn DPA knowledge quickly. Core Shell Rubber, melt extrusion or Li-Battery related experience is a plus.
- Teamwork & Cross-functional Collaboration: Highly collaborative with strong teamwork orientation, fit to our team. Work seamlessly with key stakeholders to achieve business goals.
- Business Development Agility and Adaptability: Identify opportunities, capture them to business ideas and execute the plan. Adjust quickly to changing scopes, customer priorities, and market dynamics; focus on the highest-value opportunities.
- Customer Orientation: Experience in customer interface and establishing strategic relationships with stakeholders. Translate customer needs into tailored solutions.
- Communication & Presentation: Distill complex technical topics into clear, audience-appropriate messages for customers and stakeholders.
- Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and execute projects. Manage timelines, risks, and stage gates to commercialization. Communicate updates and align with key stakeholders.
