About the Role:
Planet is looking for a Technical Writer to create clear, accurate, and developer-friendly documentation for Planet’s products and APIs. In this role, you will produce and maintain technical content that enables customers, partners, and internal teams to successfully use Planet data, platforms, and developer tools. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Solutions teams to understand new features and workflows, translate them into high quality content, and continuously improve the overall developer experience.
This role combines hands-on content creation with technical editing and review. You will own documentation delivery for assigned product areas while also reviewing and improving content authored by the Product, Engineering and Education teams to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency. This role sits within Planet Education & Enablement team and works in close partnership with Product, Engineering and Technical Support.
This is a full-time, hybrid role requiring three days per week in our Berlin office.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Create and maintain high-quality, developer-focused technical documentation that improves developer experience and enables customers to successfully use Planet’s products, APIs, and workflows.
- Partner with Product Managers and Engineers throughout the product development lifecycle, including feature planning, release readiness, and post-launch improvements.
- Act as the primary documentation point of contact for assigned product areas, owning documentation planning, delivery, and ongoing content improvements.
- Continuously improve content usability based on customer feedback, support trends, and product changes.
- Apply and contribute to the improvement of documentation standards, structure, and information architecture to ensure consistent, high-quality content.
- Collaborate with Education, Support, and Solutions teams to align content with training materials, onboarding flows, and customer use cases.
What You Bring:
- 4+ years of experience writing technical documentation for developer or technical audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience creating original technical documentation and editing/reviewing content authored by engineers or product teams
- Ability to learn complex products quickly and work with engineers to extract technical details and real world use cases
- Hands‑on experience with APIs and developer tools (REST, authentication, SDK usage)
- Working knowledge of Python and JavaScript sufficient to understand workflows, write and test example code, and validate documentation
- Experience working in a Git-based documentation workflow using tools such as Visual Studio Code, including commits, merge requests, and version control
- Deep sense of ownership with high standards for clarity, accuracy, structure, and maintainability
- Experience documenting complex technical systems, APIs, or data platforms
