We are a corporate functions blended organization of Research & Development (R&D) and Engineering (ENG). We work across and support all areas of the company, partnering with a variety of businesses (Fabric Care, Baby Care, etc.) in solving their toughest challenges in enabling new irresistibly superior products and packages with a sustainable competitive advantage via Process & Equipment (P&E) innovation. In this role, you will work on a wide range of problem statements and be exposed to different products and package technologies while developing contacts and networks across company.
Skills You Can Expect to Learn/Build in This Job: You will have the opportunity to improve and use a broad range of mechanical engineering skills, ranging from early studies involving modeling and engineering analysis to hands-on prototyping and proof of principle with full scale equipment. You will be encouraged to explore areas of technical curiosity and acquire new skills in those areas.
Office location is Beckett Ridge Innovation Center. Driving to other Cincinnati technical centers is probable.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and provide engineering for all phases of the development and prototyping of mechanical processes and equipment, including: Work with internal business unit partners to understand the business need and determine a development strategy that provides the best solution while balancing technical risk. Interface with other disciplines (controls, materials, process, manufacturing, product development) and Supply Chain Innovation (SCI) infrastructure support groups to find the best possible technical solutions.
Lead option development and analysis to optimize technical solutions.
Understand the business and business metrics to further optimize technical solutions.
Use modeling and analysis tools to screen options based on quantitative engineering data.
Identify high risk technical challenges and form development strategies to mitigate those risks.
Focus on sequential phases of knowledge building to keep failures early and cheap.
Conceive, develop, and evaluate multiple solutions using a combination of modeling/simulation and rapid physical mockups/prototypes.
Own and lead all aspects of design and construction of test equipment to final hardware where appropriate.
Dedicate a portion of time to researching and identifying key Emerging Technologies.
Generating estimates of development cost and schedule based on concrete deliverables.
In addition to project work, act as a technical resource in APS. Consult as needed with Organization Units (OU’s), participate in peer reviews and brainstorming sessions on a high frequency.
Help evaluate OEM vendors and their solutions.

Job Qualifications
Required:
Self-motivated and technically curious engineer with a passion for technology and a proven capability to deliver innovative technical solutions and breakthrough results.
Creativity/Innovation: Can generate "clean sheet" ideas and concepts for manufacturing processes based on new ideas or reapplication of current technologies applied/combined in new and novel ways.
Excellent written communication and presentation skills. Capable of concise report writing and thorough documentation. Comfortable giving tours and presentations to all levels of management. Role requires working effectively with diverse groups of people, both internal and external to the organization.
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science Engineering degree (ME or equivalent). Desire for a technical career path and developing deep mastery in Process & Engineering (P&E) new process Front End Innovation (FEI) development work.
Mechanical Systems: A candidate would ideally have some background in machine design, use of 3D CAD, and use of CAE tools for static and dynamic analysis of machine components. Engineering and design skills would include the ability to specify appropriate machine commercial components (motors, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, drive belts, pneumatic actuators, linear guides, etc.) for mechanical and servo driven systems.
Servos/Drives: A candidate would ideally have some background in selecting and applying basic motors and actuators. Understands relationship between inertia, system compliance, and torque, and frequency response. Ability to apply the key concepts of mechatronics and execute basic motion control programming is a plus.
Experience with converting or packaging-based processes and equipment. Knowledge of commercial systems and state of the art in those industries. Knowledge of web handling and experience with associated modeling tools is desired.
Familiarity with machining and additive manufacturing for fabrication of complex mechanical parts. Understanding the relative complexity and cost of various fabrication methods to deliver required tolerances is a plus.
Manufacturing and/or start-up experience in a production facility.
Experience with process development tools; control charts, DOX, reliability engineering, high speed video. Knowledgeable in the value and use of mechanical laboratory analytical tools. Strong focus on use of 5M learning tools.
