Mine Permitting Specialist
The Mine Permitting Specialist will participate in the planning and preparation of mining permit applications modifications, and annual reports for multiple regulatory agencies; conduct onsite regulatory inspections; and obtain other regulatory approvals to meet business objectives. Additional responsibilities will include providing support to Ecology and Reclamation staff on reclaimed land and enhancement projects related to land use / habitat updates and adaptive management strategies for both reclamation and mitigation areas; support all aspects of permit modifications including conducting wetland delineations and habitat zonation; and coordinating and capturing changes to infrastructure requirements and permit timing needs.
What you'll do:
Participates in permit application preparation, submission and mitigation monitoring.
Provides technical expertise in various assessments required by permitting projects.
Communicates with regulatory agencies and municipalities as needed to facilitate processing of mine permits and related approvals. Attend meetings with regulatory agencies and public hearings as needed. Provides support and communications with other departments regarding permitting as needed
Researches new and stays current on rules and requirements of each regulatory agency and/or municipality to facilitate permit processing and expedite completion
Prepares reports as required by county, state and federal agencies
Performs miscellaneous permitting duties and projects as assigned
What you'll need:
Bachelor’s degree required with a major in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or similar.
1+ years of experience in wetland delineation and permitting at the county, state and federal level and/or comparable regulatory, permitting or related experience required.
Candidates with strong background in environmental policy, regulatory affairs and associated field work preferred.
Prior project management experience is preferred.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Demonstrated relationship-building skills
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to adapt to a continually changing business and work environment and work under pressure
Ability to resolve complex issues and handle multiple priorities
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time within Florida and potentially other U.S. locations
Strong background in field of ecology data collection/assessments preferred
GIS experience and background preferred
