Job Description:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Programs public safety radios on the Bell County Public Safety radio system.

  • Monitors, maintains, upgrades, and troubleshoots system performance.

  • Maintains and updates radio console software.

  • Schedules work activities and tracks service calls and installations.

  • Maintains radio database and software.

  • Assists directly with internal and external users with service needs and new requests.

  • Works directly with leadership to determine urgency, deadlines, and timelines.

  • Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Ability to work outside standard office hours to include weekends, holidays, and after hours. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the department and county attendance policies and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by experience working with radio or audio systems and programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Physical Demands:

This position includes both sedentary office and field support functions. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas is required. Hand dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate standard office and radio equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and radio. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers and cabinets open.

Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):

Employees work in office and field (such as radio tower sites) environments with moderate noise levels, controlled/un-controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous substances.  The work environment can be stressful and employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Proposed Salary:

  • $28.85 Hourly
