Job Description

General Manager - Mixed Home Services

(40% HVAC / 30% Plumbing / 30% Electrical)

Greenville, SC | ~$30M Revenue | PE-Backed Platform

Compensation: $160–200K base + up to 50% performance bonus + meaningful equity in a growing platform

The Business

This is a $30M residential home services operation running three trades under one roof — roughly 40% HVAC, 30% Plumbing, and 30% Electrical. The business is well-balanced, profitable, and part of a PE-backed platform that’s investing in growth. It’s not a turnaround. It’s a strong operation that needs a proven leader to take it to the next level.

The Role

You’ll own the whole thing — P&L, people, operations, customer experience, growth. You’ll lead a team of department managers and 100+ field and office employees across all three trades. You report to platform leadership and operate with real autonomy, but within a structure that expects transparency, data-driven decisions, and accountability to plan.

This is a hands-on operating role, not a figurehead position. You should be as comfortable reviewing tech scorecards and dispatch efficiency as you are presenting quarterly results to ownership.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Full P&L ownership for a ~$30M multi-trade home services business
  • Leading and developing department heads across HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical
  • Setting and hitting targets on revenue, margin, customer satisfaction, and technician productivity
  • Building and retaining a high-performing team in a competitive labor market for skilled trades
  • Running a disciplined operating rhythm — daily huddles, weekly scorecards, monthly reviews
  • Identifying and executing on growth opportunities (new revenue streams, capacity expansion, market penetration)
  • Partnering with platform leadership on strategic planning, acquisitions integration, and best-practice sharing across the portfolio
  • Making smart capital decisions on fleet, equipment, facilities, and technology

Who You Are

You’ve run a home services business (or something very close to it) at scale. Not a single department — a full operation. You know what it takes to keep trucks rolling, techs productive, customers happy, and cash flowing. You’ve managed a P&L north of $15M and you can talk margins, mix, and capacity in your sleep.

You’re a multi-trade operator. You don’t need to be a licensed plumber, electrician, and HVAC tech — but you need real fluency across trades. You understand that each has different workflows, margins, seasonality, and team cultures, and you know how to lead across all of them.

You build teams, not just manage them. Your people follow you to the next company. You develop managers, you recruit hard in a tight market, and you’re not afraid to make tough calls on underperformers — even ones who hit their numbers.

You thrive in a platform environment. You’ve worked in PE-backed, franchise, or multi-unit structures. You understand the balance between local autonomy and enterprise alignment. You don’t fight the reporting cadence — you use it.

You’re data-driven but not data-paralyzed. You know your KPIs cold, you use them to make decisions, and you don’t need a week-long analysis to act when the business tells you something is off.

Experience that matters most:

  • 10+ years in operations leadership, with meaningful time in home services, field services, or skilled trades
  • Direct P&L ownership of $15M+ (ideally $25M+)
  • Experience managing across multiple service lines or trades
  • Track record of building, developing, and retaining strong teams
  • Familiarity with ServiceTitan, Successware, or similar field service platforms (not required, but a plus)
  • Experience in PE-backed, platform, or multi-unit environments (strongly preferred)

What matters less:

  • A specific degree — we care about what you’ve built, not where you went to school
  • Having held the exact title of “General Manager” — if you’ve been a VP of Ops, Regional Director, or COO of a similar-sized business, we want to talk
  • Knowing all three trades deeply — cross-trade leadership ability matters more than technical licensing

Why This Role

  • Real ownership. This isn’t a middle-management seat. You run the business.
  • Equity upside. Meaningful ownership stake in a growing platform — your work builds long-term wealth, not just a paycheck.
  • A good business to lead. This isn’t a distressed asset. It’s a strong, balanced operation with room to grow.
  • Platform resources. You get the backing of a well-capitalized platform — recruiting support, technology investment, M&A pipeline — without losing the feel of running your own shop.
  • Greenville. One of the fastest-growing metros in the Southeast. Great quality of life, strong housing market, and a deep talent pool.
