Roche
Job Description
At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Position
The Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) team within Sensor & Cartridge (S&C) Operations supports the manufacturing processes and quality control of Roche Blood Gas and Electrolyte sensors and reagents. Our systems are vital diagnostic solutions that deliver fast and reliable results in medically critical situations – including intensive care units, emergency rooms, operating rooms, and neonatology.
We are responsible for the continuous improvement of product quality and the increase of cost efficiency. A key focus is the implementation of new product developments into the routine process using the Design-for-Manufacturing approach. As a dynamic, interdisciplinary team (Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.), MSAT acts as scientific and technical support for ongoing production and establishes control mechanisms for critical process parameters.
The Opportunity
You will be involved in an active Design-Transfer project to support the transition of a new blood gas analysis system and its consumables from development to routine manufacturing. On the Operations side, you will work on strategic focus areas and gain insight into standard operations processes and documentation guidelines in a GMP environment (for medical device production) – the perfect preparation for your future career in the industry.
Bridge the gap between R&D and Ops: You will participate in and moderate cross-functional stakeholder meetings (MSAT, OT, R&D, Production, Quality), independently analyze workflows, and consolidate them into a lean, final production process through proactive stakeholder management.
Lean Manufacturing & Creative Optimization: You will identify inefficiencies in existing processes and develop creative solutions. We expect you to have the confidence to present your ideas to the team, make well-founded decisions, and actively help shape sensor production.
GxP Documentation & Standardization: You will create and harmonize manufacturing instructions (SOPs) and test instructions under strict quality requirements to ensure a consistent documentation structure for all global interfaces.
Digital Tool Development & UX in GMP: You will actively participate in requirements management and testing of new production apps and digital documentation tools. The goal is to optimize user experience (UX) and minimize error sources through innovative digital solutions.
Quality, Risk & Analytics: You will actively collaborate on process risk analyses (e.g., pFMEA) and formal change management processes, and perform data-based performance analyses to monitor the production lines.
Who you are
You are an enrolled Master student at a university or university of applied sciences) or have graduated within 12 months prior to the internship’s start date. Your field of study is Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Material Science, Engineering, or Process Management / Industrial Engineering.
Quality Awareness: Strong attention to detail and enjoyment of precise documentation according to GDP/GMP guidelines; ideally initial knowledge of GxP or GCP.
Analytical Thinking: Passion for data-based process development and understanding the complex relationships between product quality and process performance.
Communication & Team Spirit: Strong communication skills for collaboration at the interface of R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production.
Language Skills: Proficient in both German (at least B2 level) and English (written and spoken).
Additional details
The duration of the internship is 12 months.
Your complete application includes the following documents: A current CV and a motivation Letter.
This position is suitable for students looking for a 100% to 80% internship.
Non EU/EFTA students must prove that they are enrolled at the University during the full duration of their internship and that the internship is a mandatory part of their curriculum.
This internship is suitable for a Master Thesis.
We are excited to see your application!
