Job Description

About ngrok Inc.

ngrok is an all-in-one cloud networking platform that secures, transforms, and routes traffic to services running anywhere. Instead of cobbling together nginx, NLBs, VPNs, model routers, and oodles of other tools, developers solve every networking problem with one gateway. Doesn’t matter if they’re sharing localhost or running AI workloads in production.

We're trusted by more than 9 million developers at companies like GitHub, Okta, HashiCorp, and Twilio. What started as a way to put your local app on a public URL has grown into a universal gateway for API delivery, AI inference, device fleets, and site-to-site connectivity. It’s the same ngrok that millions of developers have loved and leaned on every day for years, now with the power to run production traffic at scale.

A few things you should know:

  • We are obsessed with our pets, Viper sunglasses and Bufo (yes, the toad)
  • We have a designated Chief Emoji Officer - they are vital to our success!
  • We like software that’s serious and culture that’s not

The Opportunity

ngrok is looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer to help shape the future of our products in an era where AI is changing how software gets built and shipped.

As a key member of the Product Development Team, you’ll work closely with Product and Engineering to shape and deliver high-quality product experiences. You’ll own meaningful areas of the product end-to-end—from early problem framing through to shipped features in users’ hands—moving fluidly between research, prototyping, and delivery as the work demands.

We solve complex networking problems for millions of developers. The design challenges reflect that: translating technical depth into approachable experiences, building for users who notice every detail, and finding clarity in areas without established playbooks.

This role is a good fit for someone who wants high ownership, moves quickly, and is comfortable working in a hands-on, evolving environment.

About the Design team

ngrok's Design team is small but mighty. We’re highly collaborative and work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Leadership to craft excellent product and brand experiences, envision the future of where the company is headed, and ensure ngrok's brand and visual presentation remain as high quality as our product thinking.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Think like a builder. You’ll sketch, wireframe, and prototype quickly, get ideas in front of users early, and iterate toward real product outcomes.
  • Use AI as a creative partner. You’re already using AI tools to extend what you can build, prototype faster, synthesize research, or explore interaction patterns.
  • Get close to the problem. Learn how developers use ngrok, where they get stuck, and what “better” actually looks like for them.
  • Contribute to product direction. Work with Product and Engineering to clarify problems, explore solutions, and shape strong product experiences in your areas.
  • Maintain a high craft bar. Bring strong judgment to interaction design, visual design, copy, edge cases, and implementation details.
  • Lead projects when needed. Facilitate discussions, align stakeholders, run lightweight research, and help drive decisions forward.
  • Make your thinking legible. Share rationale, document key decisions, and help Product and Engineering understand the tradeoffs behind your work.
  • Contribute to the design team. Help strengthen our shared standards, critique culture, and ways of working as the team grows.

Skills

  • 5+ years of product design experience at technology companies, with a portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, research, and end-to-end product thinking
  • End-to-end execution. You take work from early problem framing through to shipped and polished outcomes
  • AI-augmented workflow. You actively integrate AI into how you work, using it to generate concepts, build prototypes, and synthesize research — continually expanding what you can do
  • Builder mindset. You make ideas tangible quickly — through sketches, wireframes, and prototypes — to communicate, collaborate, test, and iterate
  • Strong communication. Able to influence without authority and clearly articulate tradeoffs
  • Sharp instincts for learning. You know how to get close to users and turn what you learn into a clear point of view
  • Bonus Points
    • Experience designing for developers
    • Familiarity with networking concepts
    • Basic front-end experience / familiarity (HTML/CSS/JS, etc.)
    • Experience with Tailwind CSS or similar frameworks
