Job Description

General Summary:    

The Athletic Trainer Fellow position is a fellowship training position in the field of athletic training.  The individual in this position is required to adhere to CAATE policies and procedures. The staff member, under the supervision of the sports medicine coordinator/program director/athletic trainer, can perform the following functions: prevention, assessment, treatment (including first aid) and recondition of injuries. The staff member will assist the sports medicine physician, and other healthcare professionals within the orthopedic department, at all Lurie Children’s locations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Functions as an effective member of the health care team by collaborating appropriately with families, physicians, other rehabilitation staff, APPs, nurses, and others within the organization. Complies with the professional code of ethics / standards and abides by current state and federal laws.

  • Under the supervision of the sports medicine coordinator/program director/athletic trainer, demonstrates an ability to perform the following functions: prevention, assessment, interpretation of imaging, treatment (including first aid), casting, brace fitting and rehabilitation of injuries.

  • Independently and safely covers assigned community outreach events for the Institute of Sports Medicine at multiple sites in Chicago and suburbs.

  • Performs prescribed treatments and recommendations made by the physician and /or other healthcare professionals.

  • Integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent, and adult patients regarding their growth and development process.

  • Participates in the Knee Injury Prevention Program (KIPP) and serves as an instructor with guidance from the Sports Medicine Coordinator as needed.

  • Participates in related research activities.

  • Identifies areas of growth and participates in quality improvement projects for the Institute for Sports Medicine.

  • Supervises and instructs affiliating students while providing feedback to the physicians and healthcare professionals.

  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in health-related field with current NATA Board of Certification Inc. certification. Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Current ATC License in the State of Illinois.

  • Proof of certification from the BOC.

  • Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association by having completed the BLS AED Heartsaver Course.

Pay Range

$46,280.00-$75,670.40 Salary
