Job Summary

EMS/DMS/SCADA – Transmission Outage System (TOS) analysts provide technical support and training for computer Energy Management (EMS) Systems, Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA), and transmission outage systems and other technical infrastructure used in Transmission Operations centers. Position requires a high degree of adaptability, and a focus on meeting customer needs and continuous improvement in the systems supported. A high ability to organize and coordinate customer needs will be required.

Job Description

 What you’ll do:

  • Maintain reliable operations of SOM, Epilog, CMS, and AMP, referred to as Transmission Outage Systems (TOS). Improve and make recommendations to improve the quality, efficiency, and reliability of TOS and related services. Typically accomplished by identification of product defects, correction and implementation activities. 
  • Execute assigned activities related to the deployment of new TOS related applications or enhancements such as extensive testing and documentation.  
  • Configure and maintain Transmission Outage System user interfaces including the implement/support Human Performance Initiative rules, AEP Policies, and Key Performance Indicators around TOS. 
  • Provide assistance and guidance to employees across the corporation in the proper use of applications 
  • Assists higher level team members with overall Transmission Outage Systems needs 
  • Senior Analysts (SG7 and SG8) will provide support/guidance or assist in providing support to less qualified Analysts on problem resolution. Train lower-level Analysts in specific equipment and software support activities. 
  • Senior Analysts (SG7 and SG8) will Investigate, analyze and resolve application issues with no direction from senior staff.   
  • Coordinate application training plans and the development of training material with the appropriate training group.  
  • Perform data analysis and assist in the development of reports with no direction from senior staff.   
  • Coordinate the development of business processes and associated application requirements. 

Preferred Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential. Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Agile practices, Project Management, and Testing best practice

What we’re looking for:

DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst SG7

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university
  • Or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience: 

  • Four (4) years DMS/EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree and Six (6) years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Individuals with a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of DMS/EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst Senior SG8

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience:

  • Six (6) years EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree or eight (8) years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Individuals with a bachelor’s degree and 4 years of EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

In addition to the EMS/SCADA experience noted above, detailed knowledge is required in three other pertinent areas below:

  • Application development
  • Operating System support
  • Computer system administration Database technologies and support

DMS/EMS/SCADA Analyst Principal SG9

Education:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related technical field or higher from an accredited college/university
  • Or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.

Experience:

  • Ten (10) years EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree
  • Or twelve (12) years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Individuals with a bachelor’s degree and 8 years of EMS/SCADA experience.

In addition to the EMS/SCADA experience noted above.

  • Detailed knowledge is required in all other pertinent areas below:
  • Application development Operating System support Computer system administration Database technologies and support

In addition:

***TOS are mission critical systems and require 24/7/365 support. All team members will participate in an on-call rotation that includes after hours, weekends, and holidays.  

  • Some travel involved less than 15%.
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of operational practices of applicable equipment and software in assigned areas of knowledge.
  • Strong skills in communication, issue resolution, organization, and facilitation are essential. Solid understanding of the business unit / operating company systems is preferred. Experience with SCADA systems required.
  • Take leadership role in defining Training Initiatives for PCE SCADA. Participates in industry forums/conferences as an active member. Interfaces with other utilities to exchange practice concepts.
  • Can assist in SCADA applications regardless of the region at a detailed level. 9Provide after-hours support for the EMS/SCADA systems as needed. Actively engaged in updating standards.
  • Identify compliance issues and provide guidance on how to communicate or resolve the concern.
