About the role
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Electrical Engineer with a focus on Battery Management Systems (BMS) for electric vehicles. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical excellence, resilience, and the capacity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role requires end-to-end ownership of BMS hardware design, with a particular emphasis on functional safety and reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of next-generation BMS hardware, encompassing all stages from feature proposal, specification development, part selection, hardware design, and rigorous validation.
- Drive the electrical design and continuous improvement of BMS components to ensure high performance, efficiency, and safety in electric vehicles.
- Collaborate on powertrain and vehicle-level integrations across prototype and production phases, ensuring seamless system operation.
- Act as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting field issues related to BMS performance, applying advanced diagnostic techniques.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams—mechanical design, manufacturing, software engineering, and supply chain—to bring safe, reliable BMS products to mass production.
- Work within a team to develop and enhance critical safety protocols for BMS, emphasizing compliance with automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in BMS or other safety-critical, high-reliability electronic products within the automotive industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cell chemistry (such as Li-ion) and battery cell behavior under various operating conditions, with experience in implementing cell monitoring and protection mechanisms.
- Expertise in functional safety standards and methodologies, including ISO 26262 and DFMEA, with proven experience in designing fail-safe and fail-operational systems.
- Advanced understanding of electronics components and circuit design for BMS, with specific experience in mixed-signal circuit development for high-speed, high-precision applications.
- Proficiency with schematic capture tools, Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA), and PCB layout best practices for high-voltage applications, signal integrity, power integrity, noise immunity, and EMI mitigation.
- Hands-on experience in designing and testing microcontrollers, operational amplifiers, AD/DA converters, SMPS, communication circuits, and other critical BMS circuits.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (such as Simulink, LTspice, Simplis, etc.) for power electronic components, including transient analysis for SMPS and analog circuit simulations.
- Experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, spectrum analyzer, high-voltage probes) and a track record of ensuring compliance with rigorous testing and validation standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of BMS software integration, especially as it relates to functional safety (ASIL-rated
