As a Certified CS/SPD Technician, you will play a key role in how our operating rooms care for our patients as the whole team relies on you to successfully set up the operating room. Certified CS/SPD Technicians receive ample support, training and education, including learning how to operate the latest, state-of-the-art processing equipment and using the newest sterilization tools and concepts. By taking on this role, you will have a major impact on patient care by helping to ensure the safety and health of the patient.
A caregiver in this position will work days/evenings/nights/weekends between 7:00am and 11:00pm. For the first 90-days during new hire training period, a caregiver in this role will work 7:00am to 3:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Be responsible for the safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, equipment distribution and case cart management.
- Perform case pull functions.
- Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
- Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
- Assemble, wrap and label instruments.
- Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
- Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
- Perform recordkeeping functions, such as processing, sterilization and quality assurance.
- Participate in in-service education.
- Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
- Perform preceptor duties and assist in educating non-certified technicians.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER)
- Proficient in using computerized instrument tracking systems
- Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Two to five years of experience in central service/sterile processing areas
- Completion of a recognized training program with certification in central service/sterile processing
- Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
- Lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull and navigate supply carts weighing >than 75 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
