EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is currently 8:30 a.m.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under supervision, this classification is responsible for coordinating, researching, and implementing environmental policies, addressing storm water management, environmental planning, pollution prevention, regulatory compliance, protection of natural resources, and public education. Acts as a liaison with other County departments and public utility companies, assists with all phases of environmental programs including inter-office concerns and call/inquiries from local municipalities and the general public and performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identifies, develops, evaluates and maintains environmental program activities and services that meet policies, procedures and requirements.
Assists in identifying key environmental issues and in planning strategies to resolve them.
Promotes public environmental awareness and education.
Reviews operations for environmental compliance and identifies areas for improvement.
Researches and writes reports on new environmental practices.
Develops, applies, and monitors environmental programs and policies.
Keeps track of assigned program budgets, contracts, and related fiscal responsibilities.
Researches and prepares grant applications and related progress documents.
Coordinates the training of County staff regarding environmental programs and policies.
Provides technical assistance and information by answering inquiries from community agencies, businesses and the public.
Attends meetings concerning local environmental issues.
Provides support to local environmental efforts and organizations.
Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Planning, or a directly related field
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in developing and coordinating environmental outreach programs
Preferred Education and Experience
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Planning, or a directly related field
Required Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel

Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
Speak and understand a language other than English is preferred
