Position Purpose
This position provides leadership and oversight for evening and overnight building services operations at Century College, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment. The supervisor directs custodial staff and student workers; implements cleaning standards aligned with industry frameworks; manages event support, waste and recycling programs; and oversees inventory, equipment, and safety compliance. The role works in close coordination with the Day Shift Building Services Supervisor to maintain consistent service delivery, support sustainability initiatives, and ensure operational continuity across all facilities functions. This is a working supervisor position.
Position Responsibilities
Exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and employees under my jurisdiction will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objectives of the section.
Lead and manage daily building services operations for the afternoon and evening shifts, including planning, assigning, and supervising cleaning tasks, developing and maintaining cleaning protocols and standards, and ensuring consistent service delivery.
Maintains and monitors inventory using standardized custodial supply‑management practices, ensuring chemicals, consumables, and equipment meet APPA/ISSA environmental, safety, and performance guidelines where applicable.
To oversee department safety and training requirements.
Salary Range:
$24.96 - $34.11/hour
(DOQ – Salary Placement will be done at time of hire.)
Minimum Qualifications
2 years of progressively responsible experience supervising or leading custodial, janitorial, maintenance, environmental services, or comparable building services staff, relevant to the duties described in this position description.
Demonstrated experience developing or applying cleaning protocols, standards, staffing workflows, or quality assurance procedures in a custodial, facilities, or similar operational setting.
Demonstrated ability to assign, direct, train, and support staff or work crews, including making independent decisions related to daily task coordination.
Knowledge of OSHA requirements, SDS/HazCom procedures, chemical handling practices, and custodial safety standards applicable to the position description.
Proficiency using email, scheduling tools, work order or inventory systems, spreadsheets, and similar operational software used in custodial/facilities operations.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualification
Extensive supervisory or lead experience (5+ years) in custodial, environmental services, or facilities operations in multi‑building, high‑traffic, or 24/7 environments of similar complexity to the position.
Experience supervising or coordinating staff in a unionized environment, including familiarity with collective bargaining provisions affecting scheduling, assignments, and performance management.
Experience implementing or supporting industry‑standard custodial quality‑assurance systems such as APPA custodial standards, ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standards (CIMS), inspection‑based scoring systems, ATP/fluorescent marker testing, or similar benchmarking tools.
Experience developing or delivering staff training programs, including equipment operation, chemical safety, standardized cleaning methods, or new‑employee onboarding.
Experience in public‑sector, higher‑education, K–12, healthcare, hospitality, commercial property management, or other settings with large‑scale building operations or comparable complexity.
Demonstrated involvement in sustainability or green‑cleaning initiatives, such as waste‑reduction practices, environmentally responsible product selection, or recycling program coordination.
