Job Summary
Perform a variety of standardized laboratory tests used in quality control testing of flavor chemicals.Position Summary
The Quality Analyst I / Analytical Chemist I supports the IFF Taste business unit as a member on our South Brunswick Operations flavor manufacturing team within the Quality Control department. You will contribute by performing analytical testing to ensure that raw materials and finished products meet established IFF specifications. This role involves instrumental analyses using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), wet chemistry analyses, equipment calibration, sample preparation, data interpretation, and documentation in support of manufacturing and quality operations. The role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, the ability to work efficiently in a laboratory environment, and excellent soft skills to collaborate on a team of chemists from various backgrounds with different levels of experience. You will also support internal investigations collaborating with the lab supervisor and process engineering team.
Where You’ll Make a Difference (Key Responsibilities)
Prepare samples for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), set up sequences using Agilent 1200 HPLC instruments and OpenLab software, maintain HPLC sample workflow, and interpret HPLC results using OpenLab and Excel spreadsheets
Prepare samples for gas chromatography (GC) testing and support the GC analysts
Support wet chemistry analyses in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conduct analytical testing on raw materials and finished products and accurately report results.
Prepare samples, acquire data, interpret results, and ensure proper documentation.
Support calibration of analytical equipment on a daily basis, including but not limited to: density meter, refractometer, pH meter, titration systems (titratable acidity, Karl Fischer, chlorides), UV-Vis spectrophotometer, moisture analyzers.
Assist with investigations of internal and external non-conformances using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Maintain laboratory workflow by multitasking effectively and adhering to safety and quality standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental goals.
What Makes You the Right Fit (Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
Basic knowledge of laboratory math and scientific principles.
Familiarity with HPLC, GC, and wet chemistry techniques.
Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Excellent English language communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to multitask and function effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
