The Role at a Glance
The Agency Instructor, under general supervision will be responsible for training various courses within the General Law Enforcement Training Program (GLET). The Instructor will be required to facilitate training in the areas of Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Telecommunications. The Instructor will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. They will use a variety of media to present course material. The instructor will also modify course curriculum, when necessary, to meet learner’s needs. They will maintain skills and knowledge base adequate to meet current and future instructional requirements. This position will be required to supervise and evaluate student performance as well as competently discuss procedures and regulations and apply all safety measures.
This position reports to the Training Director.
Qualifications of the Role
High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Six years of law enforcement experience as a licensed Texas Peace Officer.
Three years of law enforcement instructional experience.
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement - Basic Instructor Proficiency Certification.
Active TCOLE Peace Officer License, Honorably Retired Texas Peace Officer Credentials, or the ability to reactivate license within 60 days.
Equivalency: Will consider a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two years of related experience listed above OR an Associate’s degree in a related field with four years of related experience listed above. Experience must include three years of law enforcement instructional experience.
