Our Environmental Services (EVS) Department is consistently ranked among the highest-performing EVS teams in healthcare. As an Environmental Services Assistant, you will help create the comfortable and safe environment our patients have come to expect. This role is a great steppingstone to other careers in Environmental Services and various departments within Cleveland Clinic. 

 

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 8:30PM, including every other weekend and holiday. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Clean patient rooms, utility rooms, nourishment rooms, conference rooms, offices, corridors, stairways, locker rooms and restrooms.  

  • Clean toilets, urinals, sinks and lockers.  

  • Replenish supplies.  

  • Collect trash and needles and dispose of them in an appropriate manner 

  • Dust ceilings, ceiling vents, TVs, light fixtures, doors, walls, wall hangings and flat surfaces. 

  • Wash or spot clean walls, cabinets, elevators, counters, desks and windows.  

  • Clean floors, carpets, floods and body fluids. 

  • Use and maintain equipment, such as vacuums, buffers, cleaning carts, buckets, wringers, sweeping tools and mops.  

  • Clean and disinfect beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles and other items in patient rooms. 

  • Strip and make beds.  

  • Transport and move furniture and equipment.  

  • Report malfunctioning equipment, unsafe conditions and broken items.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Interest in housekeeping work demonstrated by previous experience or ability to learn  

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, use care and attention when using equipment  

  • Insurable under the hospital plan to be permitted to drive a company vehicle 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    

  • High School Diploma or GED  

  • Hospital, cleaning and/or factory experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

  • Ability to be mobile for extended periods of time

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

  • Ability to move/transport equipment weighing up to 10 pounds (lbs.)

  • Ability to move/transport carts weighing up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.)

  • Ability to move/transport items weighing up to 50 pounds (lbs.)

  • Ability to inspect equipment

  • Ability to clean, operate cleaning equipment and use cleaning products

  • May come into contact with communicable diseases and/or body fluids

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
