JOB SUMMARY:
The senior credential specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and compliant operation of the medical staff office. This position involves aiding with the credentialing and privileging process for all medical staff, advanced practice practitioners, and allied health professionals, maintaining strict adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, and fostering positive relationships between the medical staff, hospital administration, and health system credentials verification organization.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Timely, accurate and confidential processing of requests for appointment, reappointment, temporary privileges, locum tenens application processing, and any other task directly or indirectly related to onboarding a provider. Ensure credentialing files meet regulatory, accreditation, and Medical Staff Bylaws requirements. Assists manager with the preparation of department and committee agendas and minutes as assigned. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the health system credentials verification organization, monitoring file quality and timeliness. Assists in preparing the organization for accreditation and licensing surveys related to medical staff functions. Serve as the operational lead for all medical staff visiting physician requests. Assist with staff training, onboarding, and maintenance of standard work processes. Provide daily guidance, mentoring, and workload coordination for credentialing specialists. Assists with the development and maintenance of privilege request forms, policies, and procedures.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required, associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of credentialing, Medical Staff Services or administrative experience in a hospital or physician practice setting with a working knowledge of federal, state and accreditation standards and general medical terminology.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) preferred.
Required:
1.Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
2.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to facilitate communication, collaboration, and interaction, including the ability to correspond effectively in writing, as well as verbally convey information clearly, and listen actively, with all levels of hospital personnel, medical staff and external agencies and organizations regarding MSS functions.
3.Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, thoroughness, and critical thinking skills.
4.Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvement and problem resolution within assigned specialty areas.
5.Ability to manage changing priorities and work with frequent interruptions, exercise independent thinking and judgment, and to work without direct, day-to-day supervision.
6.Strong customer service ability and desire to provide quality service to others.
7.Ability to work autonomously and within a team, and to function in matrixed environment.
8.Ability to challenge established ways of doing things in a constructive manner.
9.Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
Additional Qualifications (preferred)
- Medical staff services, hospital credentialing and privileging, and peer review experience.
- Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) or Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS).
- Leadership experience
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the Manager of the Medical Staff Office.
Has no responsibility for the supervision of staff.
