Job Summary
Perform routine technical work of a skilled nature involving electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems associated with balance of plant and reactor support equipment, to aid in the successful operation and performance of plant equipment. Assist in the calibration, surveillance testing, troubleshooting and repair of reactor protection and control instrumentation systems.Please Note: This position is posted in a range, and an offer will be made based on the candidate's qualifications.
Job Description
What You'll Do:
- Assist in performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic process instrumentation systems, microprocessor-controlled radiation monitoring systems, electronic nuclear instrumentation systems.
- Assist in testing and calibrating / repairing the following: pneumatic and electronic transmitters, indicators, converters, switches, PA and telephone communication systems, heat trace circuits, trace control units, alarm modules, electronic and pneumatic controllers, microprocessor-based recorders, control relays.
- Help to analyze, test, and repair solid state reactor protection system, rod control system, and rod position indicator system.
- Assist in Installing design changes on electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic instrumentation equipment involving wiring modifications, cable testing, wire terminations, print changes, and installation of piping, tubing and fittings.
- Assist engineers and vendor technical representatives in data collection, troubleshooting, repairing, adjusting and testing of specialized complex equipment and systems.
- Report errors, damaged, broken or out of specification equipment and any other abnormal conditions.
What We're Looking For:
I&C Tech, Junior:
Education:
- Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology
- Or equivalent education and experience.
Work Experience:
- Two years' experience in Instrumentation and Controls or related field.
I&C Tech, Mid-level:
Education:
- Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
Work Experience:
- Two years' experience as Junior I&C Tech at a Nuclear facility. Complete portion of the I&C Training required for Technicians.
I&C Tech, Senior:
Education:
- Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience:
- Complete required training for Senior technicians.
- Two years' experience as an I & C Tech at a Nuclear facility. A total of four years is required.
Other Requirements (Applies to All Levels):
- Successful completion of the Plant Technician Selection System (TECH) test is required for this position.

- Thorough knowledge of the principles of electronics, electrical, mechanical and physics relative to nuclear instrumentation be able to read, interpret and work from diagrams/schematics.
- Assist in reviewing new and revised procedures for accuracy and performability. Changes to these minimum requirements require review of ANSI N18.1-1971 or current governing document if revised AND Department/Section Manager concurrence.
Physical Demands:
- Performance of duties may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC.
- Work location will include a plant environment which may include exposure to heat, cold, and noise.
- Work location will include outdoors, and therefore subject to weather conditions. It is understood that in the performance of most nuclear generating plant duties there will be associated radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.

Hourly ranges posted from minimum to mid-point:
- I&C Tech, Junior hourly range: $34.91 - $38.72
- I&C Tech, Mid-level hourly range: $43.30 - $45.48
- I&C Tech, Senior hourly range: $52.20 - $54.66
