About the role
The University of Virginia School of Data Science is seeking a Marketing and Communications Intern to work alongside the Communications Team in the fall of 2026 with the option to renew spring 2027.
The intern will assist with writing, editing, proofreading, and event coverage. The successful candidate will be co-supervised by the Director of Communications and the Writer and Editorial Specialist, working alongside a team of professional marketers and communicators.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create, edit, and proofread articles for publication on the School of Data Science website and monthly newsletter.
• Fact check names, titles, and details of data science materials.
• Cover School events and activities, conducting interviews and gathering notes, transcripts, and quotes for stories.
• Assist with content research and administrative support for editorial projects.
• Draft and proofread communications materials, including newsletters, web content, and marketing copy as needed.
• Assist with accessibility, adjusting resumes and other documents as needed.
REQUIRED Qualifications:
Enrolled undergraduate or graduate UVA student
Work Study Eligible
Experience with Microsoft Office
Detail orientation with strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to support diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
PREFERRED Qualifications:
Experience interviewing sources for articles or class projects
Experience publishing articles
Editing/proofreading experience
Familiarity with AP style

PHYSICAL Demands
