The Team:

As Senior Analyst you will be working in the FI Team with colleagues based across Milan, Madrid, and Paris. You will report to the Analytical Manager FI in Madrid. The team is part of EMEA Financial Services and Sovereign Group.

The successful applicant will enhance our ability to efficiently and effectively serve our clients by demonstrating outstanding analytical excellence and the capacity to provide relevant, insightful and compelling analysis. The Senior Analyst is responsible for analysis of Banks and Financial Institutions in EMEA within the S&P FI Team, managing the end-to-end ratings process from initial engagement through publication of reports.

Responsibilities 

  • Issuers: You will be the first and most important contact with the issuer managing the day-to-day analytical relationship. You will lead the meetings with companies’ top management and will prepare the materials and present to the S&P rating committee that determines the rating outcome.

  • Publications: You will publish high quality and forward-looking rating reports. In addition, you are expected to author or co-author high-quality research pieces on the sector.

  • Outreach: In coordination with the Pod Lead and Analytical Manager you will communicate our thought leadership and credit stories via appropriate channels (e.g., publications, speeches, conference presentations, media interviews etc).

  • Innovation: You are expected to absorb the dynamically changing parameters of FI analysis (ESG, digital disruption, transformation of business models) and include forward-looking views into your research and committee presentations. You identify internal innovation and process improvements to enhance the work environment.   

  • People: You are a team player promoting a positive team atmosphere as well as analytical and client service excellence.

  • All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Experience and Qualifications

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have between 3 - 5+ years of experience in field of credit analysis/ credit ratings role in Financial Institution space

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience in managing and interpreting data for analytical purposes

  • Strong understanding of FI business models and financial reporting requirements 

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and interpret large volumes of financial data with attention to detail and strong numerical skills 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to engage effectively with senior management and global investors

  • Solid analytical capability, teamwork and time management skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet project deadlines within tight time frames

  • Self-starter with proactive attitude, analytical mindset, and willingness to learn 

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-changing, global and regulated environment while maintaining analytical rigor 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent English writing skills to prepare professional analyses and reports for diverse stakeholder audiences.

  • We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of or pursuit of postgraduate studies/CFA certification 

  • Experience in managing complex analytical projects and meeting tight deadlines in financial services 

  • Track record of producing high-quality research and analytical reports 

  • Experience presenting to senior stakeholders and rating committees

  • Strong command of local language - ability to speak French and/ or Italian/ Spanish would be highly preferrable
