About the role
Job Description:
Airbus Helicopters is looking for a V&V and Simulation Systems Engineer (f/m) based in Getafe (Madrid metropolitan area). We are looking for passionate individuals to join a cross-divisional project that will shape the future of autonomous flight for UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) and enable 24/7 mission capabilities in the most challenging operational conditions.
The position is in the System Design Office, functionally attached to the Head of Mission Systems and reports operationally to the Research and Innovation Leader in Spain.
Your working environment:
You will be based in Getafe, Airbus’s third-largest site globally where all three divisions converge. Madrid offers an unparalleled lifestyle for those looking to balance a high-impact career with a vibrant cultural scene. You will collaborate closely with various Engineering departments within Airbus Helicopters and the Helicopter Programs.
Your challenges:
V&V Strategy Leadership: Define and streamline the transition of the Integration, Verification & Validation (IV&V) strategy to ensure all technical requirements for autonomous flight are met.
Simulation Infrastructure Development: Lead the development of advanced simulation environments to host real-time models of virtual aircraft systems and autonomy functions.
SIL & HIL Orchestration: Oversee the end-to-end integration and testing using Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments for complex algorithm validation.
Test Campaign Planning: Contribute to the definition of comprehensive ground-based and flight test plans, ensuring evidence capture for safety-related parameters.
Safety Case Support: Partner with Safety and Airworthiness teams to ensure a robust system safety case through high-fidelity simulation and hazard mitigation testing.
Digital Twin & Model Capitalization: Analyze and capitalize on technical data from simulations and flight tests, ensuring a valuable handover of project learnings.
Agile Integration: Navigate the "fail-fast, learn-fast" prototyping environment by implementing efficient, automated test pipelines for rapid software-intensive aerospace systems.
Your profile:
Education: Degree or Master’s in Aeronautical, Systems, or Control Engineering. Specialization in Modeling & Simulation or Systems Engineering is highly valued.
Professional Experience: At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering and V&V environments, specifically focused on autonomous flight or complex avionics.
Technical Mastery: Proven expertise in requirements management (e.g., DOORS), system integration, and V&V methodologies (SIL/HIL).
Simulation Skills: High proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for algorithm modeling, testing, and validation.
Aerospace Standards: Strong command of aerospace systems design and safety standards, including ARP-4754A/B, ARP-4761, and DO-178C/DO-254.
Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with certification frameworks for UAS, including the SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) framework.
Systems Thinking: A holistic, "big picture" mindset with the capacity to translate high-level operational objectives into concrete technical V&V roadmaps.
Language: Fluent English (C1 minimum) and Spanish.
Travel: Availability to travel sporadically at a national and European level in line with flight testing plans.
