When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other.  We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Platform & Services Senior Software Engineer to design and deliver data-as-a-service capabilities for our Digital Manufacturing & Supply Chain Platform. This role will focus on building secure, scalable, and high-performance service layers that expose curated data from enterprise systems and IoT sources to downstream consumers, including applications, analytics, and simulation platforms.

You will collaborate closely with the Data Engineering team to transform raw and processed data into consumable APIs and microservices, enabling real-time insights, predictive analytics, and digital twin workflows.

Shape

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement service-oriented architectures to expose data from data platforms as APIs and reusable services.

Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to understand data models, pipelines, and governance requirements.

Develop REST/gRPC APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and event-driven services for real-time and batch data consumption.

Ensure data security, compliance, and role-based access control across all exposed services.

Optimize service performance for low-latency use cases such as dynamic scheduling and predictive maintenance.

Implement API lifecycle management, including versioning, monitoring, and documentation.

Drive adoption of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and observability tools for service deployments.

Mentor engineers on best practices for API design, microservices architecture, and DevOps automation.

Collaborate with architects and product teams to align service design with platform strategy and business goals.

Shape

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

12–15 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in platform or integration-focused roles.

Proven expertise in API development (REST/gRPC, GraphQL) and microservices architecture.

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

Strong knowledge of data integration patterns, messaging systems (Kafka/Event Hubs), and orchestration frameworks.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.

Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code for service deployments.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Shape

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to data virtualization and semantic layers for enterprise analytics.

Familiarity with API security standards (OAuth2, JWT) and compliance frameworks.

Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and API management platforms.

Knowledge of OpenUSD and Omniverse integration for simulation-driven data services.

Contributions to open-source projects or published work in platform engineering or Industry 4.0 technologies.
