About the Role
At AltaGas, our Transportation teams play a critical role in safely, efficiently, and reliably moving products across our business. As a Transportation Student, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting transportation operations and the technology solutions that enable them.
Depending on your skills, interests, and business needs, you may be placed within Rail Transportation or Transportation Software Development, where you'll work alongside experienced professionals on meaningful projects that support day-to-day operations and long-term business objectives.
What You'll Do
Depending on your placement, you may contribute to one of the following areas:
Rail Transportation
Support the safe and efficient movement of products by rail by:
- Assisting with shipment tracking through document and Bill of Lading (BOL) management.
- Supporting database maintenance, reporting, and data quality initiatives.
- Helping organize and standardize transportation documentation and processes.
- Providing logistics support for rail transportation activities.
- Assisting with railroad pattern updates and waybill management.
- Collaborating with logistics, commercial, and operations teams to support product movements.
Transportation Software Development
Support the development and enhancement of technology solutions that improve transportation operations and business processes by:
- Assisting with the development, testing, and maintenance of internal business applications and software tools.
- Supporting data management, reporting, and database-related initiatives.
- Helping troubleshoot technical issues and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Collaborating with team members to understand business requirements and develop practical technology solutions.
- Contributing to projects that improve operational efficiency, data visibility, and business decision-making.
- Participating in team planning cycles and project sprints to support the delivery of technology solutions.
- Gaining exposure to software development, cloud technologies, databases, and modern development practices.
- Working with technologies such as C#, ASP.NET Blazor, Entity Framework, HTML/CSS, and Microsoft Azure.
What You'll Bring
- Currently enrolled in the second or third year of an undergraduate degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications; exposure to programming, databases, transportation, logistics, or data analysis concepts is considered an asset.
