About the role

The UVA Human Resources Communications & Marketing Department is looking for a motivated student to assist with important communications initiatives listed below. We have welcomed students to our team in the past and have always valued the energy, support, and fresh perspectives they bring. The goal is to not only ask the student to help with our needs, but also to provide opportunities for them to develop new skills and build their resume.

The HR Comms & Marketing team is fully remote so the student worker will be remote as well. Approximate working hours are 6-8 per week subject to student’s schedule, early September through April. The student will officially report to Karen Barnes, Director of HR Communications, but will have oversight from Cynthia Douglass, Senior Communications Specialist, on a regular basis to receive work projects and support as needed. We look forward to the student being a part of our six-person team and collaborating and providing support services for all members as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Do minor edits on HR and FEAP websites: edit content, build new webpages, create and add meta descriptions. (We will train student on Drupal CMS.)
  • Assist with annual benefits Open Enrollment campaign including: social media campaign development, graphic design, data analytics, additional support as needed.
  • Assist with the development of stories on exceptional UVA employees that will be shared widely through our various channels.
  • Take fun photos at UVA events and around Grounds for placement on the UVA Careers social media accounts, UVA Careers websites, HR website, collateral pieces, etc.
  • Contribute creative content ideas for UVA Careers social media posts to help engage prospective candidates.
  • Assist with the HR Digital Accessibility initiative: pull reports from the DubBot platform that details accessibility issues, track and report accessibility improvements, help uncover new opportunities to improve accessibility.
  • Update lists of HR employees as needed in excel spreadsheets.
  • Support the team members as needed on the various HR projects they are involved in throughout the year.
  • Anything else the student would like to jump into.

Position Compensation: $18.00 Hourly

Anticipated Assignment Dates: August 25, 2026 - May 14, 2027 with the possibility for continuing beyond these dates.

Location: University Human Resources is located at 2400 Old Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA. This position will be fully remote.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
