About the role

Overview

AI is reshaping how organizations operate, increasing both the pace of innovation and the need for disciplined execution. As AI and agentic workflows become embedded in core business processes, organizations must rethink how they plan, govern, and execute—using data, automation, and modern operating models to move faster with greater clarity and control.

Microsoft Security sits at the intersection of identity, data, cloud, and AI. To lead in this environment, the organization must not only build world-class capabilities, but also continuously modernize how work gets done across strategy, planning, governance, and cross-functional execution.

Within the Executive Office, this role serves as a strategic builder of the organization’s execution engine. The Director, Business Transformation & Business Architecture will redesign critical business processes, starting with roadmap management, and build the KPI, telemetry, and automation foundations that improve visibility, decision quality, and operating velocity. This leader will use data, collaboration signals, and AI-enabled workflows to reduce friction, strengthen alignment, and help Microsoft Security operate at the pace required in the AI era.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CTO organization and senior leadership to translate shifts in AI, agents, and platform architectures into operating model, governance, and business process change.

  • Shape strategic recommendations that evolve organizational design, decision rights, and execution mechanisms to align with how modern engineering teams build and ship.

  • Lead cross-functional work to clarify how automation, compute, and labor are reshaping cost structure, capacity, and productivity—and translate those insights into operating decisions.

  • Build frameworks that improve resource allocation and investment choices, ensuring talent and capital are directed toward the highest-impact opportunities.

  • Define and operationalize business KPIs that measure the impact of transformation, including efficiency, cost optimization, execution speed, and innovation velocity.

  • Simplify interfaces across engineering, product, operations, and business functions to remove friction, improve accountability, and increase organizational velocity.

What Success Looks Like

  • A simpler, more scalable operating model aligned with how modern engineering teams build and deliver

  • Clear leadership visibility into cost structure, productivity, and efficiency drivers in an AI-enabled environment

  • Establish governance, operating cadences, and decision forums that strengthen alignment, accelerate execution, and enable new ways of working to scale.

  • Ensure transformation efforts deliver measurable business outcomes through clear performance tracking, disciplined follow-through, and sustained operational improvement.
