Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is looking for a Director 1 – Launch Systems Chief Engineer to join the LGM-35A Sentinel Office of the Chief Engineer in our Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. This leadership role is located in Roy, Utah.
What you will get to do:
- Execute the priorities of the SDS Office of the Chief Engineer with a focus on the Launch Systems Business Unit which includes the Sentinel Launch Infrastructure, Support Equipment and MMIII Sustainment activities
- Ensure the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, verification, production and sustainment of products for our customers and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and quality standards.
- Ensure an achievable technical baseline that provides technical performance balanced with cost and schedule. Particular focus is given to Key Performance Parameters and Technical Performance Measures.
- Support Program Management Team (PMT) meetings, including but not limited to: Technical Review Board (TRB), Weapons System Working Group (WSWG), Configuration Control Board (CCB), Program Management Review (PMR), Scrumban, Risk & Opportunity Management Board (ROMB).
- Work horizontally to resolve disconnects across teams to ensure design decisions meet system performance.
- Support strategic SDS Sector initiatives on tools, processes, and cross-program technical reviews.
- Champion long-term strategic technical objectives within Sentinel and at the SDS division level.
- Support strategically valuable technical interchange meetings with Sentinel partners.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Support hardware and deliverable-focused deep dives for Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) across SDS
- Identify opportunities for and support of engagement activities across all IPTs.
- Identify and mentor high potential technical leaders.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You Will Bring These Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with at least 10 years of progressive engineering experience, or Master’s and 8 years’ of experience.
- Experience formally leading engineering teams and/or organizations.
- Demonstrated performance addressing cost, schedule, and technical quality for an engineering development project or systems integration project.
- Advanced knowledge within a single engineering discipline and experience across disciplines.
- Strong understanding and application of complex engineering tools and processes (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
- Active DoD Secret clearance, investigation must have been completed within last 5 years
These Qualifications Are Nice To Have:
- 16 years of STEM-focused experience
- ICBM or complex system of systems experience
- Experience in the management and delivery of MILCON projects
- Experience across the development lifecycle from concept through verification, production, operations, support and retirement
- Experience with the deployment of systems
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
- Design Engineering/Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience
- Experience with incremental fielding approaches (e.g. Integrated Functional Capability (IFC))
- Experience in managing customer and/or supplier relationships
- Prior experience interfacing with USAF leadership personnel
- Active DoD TS/SCI clearance
- Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
