Position Description:
The Department Coordinator is responsible to assist the Director with the operations of the Cardinal Cupboard food pantry including, but not limited to, acquiring, collecting, and distributing food, facilitating the general maintenance and upkeep of the pantry, enforcing safety standards and protocol, and supervising student workers and volunteers. Other duties of this position include social media marketing, preparing promotional materials, researching topics related to community assistance and food insecurity, coordinating events, and managing projects. Additionally, this position consistently drives the pantry van to pick up and deliver donations.
The Commonwealth Credit Union Cardinal Cupboard is a closed network food pantry affiliated with the Dare to Care Food Bank and provides support specifically to all students and employees of the University of Louisville. The Cardinal Cupboard team executes its mission to increase accessibility to nutritional food items and to decrease the financial burden and food insecurity for individuals in the Cardinal community by coordinating fundraising events, hosting food drives, and consistently distributing food and health products at its hub location in the Swain Student Activities Center.
Appointment of this position is a fixed one-year term, eligible for annual renewal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Acquiring and collecting donated and purchased food for the Pantry, completing food drive and routine food pick-ups
Recommend revisions to operational policies and procedures for food distribution
Ensures food is handled properly according to food safety standards and maintains a safe work environment free of known hazards
Serves as lead staff member, ensuring the Pantry is consistently staffed during business hours
Provides exceptional customer service to all Pantry visitors, ensuring staff members are correctly and thoroughly trained and adhere to safety guidelines and customer service expectations
Provides direction and supports staff, including student workers and volunteers, executing the daily operations of the Pantry
Addresses staff concerns and performance issues, escalating them to the Director as necessary
Assists to facilitate administrative functions of the Pantry including updating training and operational manuals, maintaining visit and temperature logs, submitting agency statistics to Dare to Care, and occasionally updating the Pantry’s social media platforms (such as Instagram and EngageUofL) and the Cardinal community service platform, HelperHelper
Serves as an active member of the Office of Student Engagement; attends meetings, participates in departmental planning and evaluation processes, and contributes thoughts and ideas to support the goals of the department and the Division
Serves on departmental, divisional and University committees
Assists other OSE staff, providing support for special events and functions and assuming additional responsibilities within the scope of the position as required, maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and one year working in a professional setting
Six months of relevant experience in food collection or distribution
Interest in student affairs, public health, or social work as a career path
Appreciates the value of higher education, diversity and community engagement
Genuine interest in assisting individuals facing food insecurity
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
Work Hours and Location
This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a 30-hour regular workweek including occasional evening and weekend hours as required. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at the Belknap Campus.
