JOB DESCRIPTION –Senior Software Engineer
Location: Athens, Greece (Hybrid- 1 day per week in the office)
Division: Ticketmaster Sports XT
Contract Terms: Permanent, 40hours per week
THE TEAM
You will join the Ticketmaster Sports XT engineering team, responsible for building and scaling a global ticketing platform that powers major sports events, tournaments, and live experiences across multiple markets.
The team operates in a collaborative, agile environment, working closely with Product, QA, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-impact solutions at scale. You’ll be part of a group that values ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and innovation.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll play a key role in shaping technical direction, mentoring engineers, and driving best practices, while contributing hands-on to building systems that support millions of fans worldwide.
THE JOB
We are looking for a Senior Back-End Engineer to join the core engineering team of Ticketmaster Sport. This team owns the development, scalability, and performance of a global ticketing platform used across multiple countries.
As a Senior Back-End Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and evolving critical backend systems, driving technical decisions, and ensuring the platform is robust, scalable, and performant. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership while contributing hands-on to delivery.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Lead the design and development of new functionalities across the ticketing platform
- Own complex technical problems end-to-end, from design through to production
- Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the long-term technical strategy
- Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to shape requirements and translate them into scalable solutions
- Lead and contribute to proofs of concept, engineering initiatives, and platform improvements
- Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability across high-traffic environments
- Mentor and support engineers, promoting best practices and high engineering standards
- Review code, provide constructive feedback, and drive quality across the team
- Contribute to backlog grooming, estimation, and sprint planning
- Automate processes (CI/CD, deployments, monitoring) to improve engineering efficiency
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues
- Deploy and manage applications across environments (QA, UAT, PROD)
- Define and execute performance, load, and stress testing strategies
- Produce and maintain technical documentation
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)
- Strong experience in back-end engineering (typically 5+ years)
- Proven experience building and scaling large distributed systems
- Strong expertise in Java (SE/EE), Spring Boot / Spring ecosystem
- Deep understanding of REST API design and microservices architecture
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate and relational databases (MSSQL or similar)
- Strong knowledge of system design, performance optimisation, and scalability
- Experience with automated testing (Unit, Integration, End-to-End)
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and release management tools (GitLab, Maven, Nexus)
- Proficient with Git workflows and version control best practices
- Experience working in cloud-based environments and modern deployment practices
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design principles
Nice to have (Front-end exposure)
- Exposure to front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React)
- Experience with high-traffic, consumer-facing platforms
