About the team

Do you enjoy meeting with customers to understand their needs and discuss the art of the possible? Do you want to join a team where learning about new technology is part of our work every day? Then, come join us!

The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges.

About the role

Are you a senior technical leader who takes full ownership of complex engineering programs, operates autonomously across organizational boundaries, and wants to shape how Microsoft engages its most strategic customers through AI-powered engineering?

The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges.

We work closely with our customers’ engineers and data scientists to jointly develop AI-powered, cloud-based solutions that accelerate their organizations. We collaborate with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to develop broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform. Our teams practice Hypervelocity Engineering (HVE), using AI tools and practices across the entire software development lifecycle to move from idea to production while accelerating time to value and increasing engineer productivity, quality, and control.

We are hiring a Principal Technical Program Manager to help drive high-impact engineering projects with our customers and their partners, transforming their missions using AI and other cloud-based solutions and services. TPMs identify and define the relevant customer scenarios, orchestrate the engineering approach to address these, and develop the end-to-end user stories with internal and external stakeholders, fulfilling the Product Owner role. You will be part of a cross-functional team of software engineers, data scientists, technical program managers, and designers who work side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions.

You will thrive working with a variety of technologies, not just Microsoft technology. You will solve business problems that matter, contribute to open source, and bring field-learned customer insight back into Microsoft’s product roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end customer engagements, from problem definition through production delivery and adoption.
  • Provide direction and momentum in high‑ambiguity environments, operating with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Apply domain expertise to validate and govern AI‑assisted solutions, ensuring quality and real‑world impact.
  • Drive a continuous flow of value to production, evolving delivery models beyond traditional, phase‑based approaches.
  • Shape Forward Deployed Engineering and AI‑assisted engineering practices, influencing how teams engage customers and scale AI‑powered delivery.
  • Partner with Engineering, Data Science, Design, and SMEs to architect and deliver complex, multi‑feature technical solutions.
  • Define success metrics and delivery plans for highly complex, cross‑functional initiatives, ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Enable continuous improvement through use‑case validation, testing strategies, performance metrics, and direct customer engagement.
  • Embodies our culture and values

Qualifications

Minimum Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years’ experience in engineering, product development, or technical program management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience leading complex, cross‑functional programs end to end, partnering with engineering, data science, and design from planning through execution.
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders, including external customers, with the ability to influence decisions in complex or strategic environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership as a senior individual contributor, leading through influence and collaboration.
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies, cloud architectures, or data engineering.
  • Experience using AI tools and workflows in managing and creating software engineering artifacts.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience reading and/or writing code and influencing architecture decisions (e.g., sample documentation, product demos, ADR facilitation)
  • Experience with data analysis related to the management and process of program delivery.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
