The Pre-Analytics Processing Technician is responsible for manually processing laboratory specimens, performing daily quality assurance activities, and maintaining equipment. A caregiver in this position works PRN| rotating days/evenings + weekends and holidays| 7:00am—3:30pm or 3:00pm—11:30pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Receive and accession specimens into the LIS (Lab Information System). 

  • Prepare specimens for analysis. 

  • Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance), problem-solving functions, and issue resolution. 

  • Assume compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring). 

  • Perform QA activities (pending log audit). 

  • Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens and verify receipts in the lab. 

  • Perform basic clerical functions (i.e., answering phones). 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of lab experience  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Associate's degree, preferably in a science related field (this may substitute the one year of experience needed above) 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills 

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.
  • Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
