The Opportunity:

Reporting to the VP, Medical Affairs, Europe, the Senior Medical Director for Thoracic Oncology (Lung) provides strategic and operational medical leadership across the European region for the lung cancer portfolio. This role contributes to the development and execution of the regional medical strategy in alignment with global objectives, ensuring scientific excellence, patient centricity, and compliance.

The position serves as a key medical partner to global teams, regional leadership, and external stakeholders, and acts as a recognized scientific expert in thoracic oncology, including biomarker-driven lung cancers (e.g., RAS-mutated NSCLC).

A key focus of the role is to support upcoming launches, working in close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical Development, and Global Medical Affairs. The role requires a highly collaborative leader who can operate effectively in a matrix environment, influence without authority, and build strong partnerships to support successful and compliant launches across Europe. This role will be based in Switzerland.

Responsibilities :

  • Contribute to the development and lead execution of the Regional Lung medical strategy, including scientific engagement, evidence generation, internal education, and patient advocacy.

  • Act as a strategic partner to Global Medical Affairs, R&D, Market Access, Commercial, and Regulatory teams.

  • Translate global lung medical strategy into impactful regional plans aligned with European market needs and scientific priorities.

  • Provide European medical input into clinical development, real-world evidence (RWE), and publication strategies in thoracic oncology.

  • Support the design and execution of healthcare professional engagement strategies to gather insights and inform internal programs.

  • Serve as a senior medical expert in lung cancer (NSCLC focus), ensuring high scientific and ethical standards.

  • Contribute to Regional Medical Affairs Team activities and cross-functional initiatives, including pre-launch planning for lung assets.

  • Support gap analyses and contribute to launch readiness, evidence generation plans, and tactical execution.

  • Lead or support scientific exchange activities including advisory boards, congress strategy (e.g., ESMO, ELCC, WCLC), investigator interactions, and medical education initiatives.

  • Communicate complex clinical and scientific data to key external experts and healthcare professionals.

  • Represent Medical Affairs in cross-functional team meetings (clinical sub-teams, brand teams, lung teams, market access discussions).

  • Partner with Clinical and MSL teams to support study enrollment, site engagement, and scientific exchange.

  • Contribute to RWE/HEOR strategies as part of the regional medical plan.

  • Collaborate with Patient Advocacy and Grants teams to integrate patient perspectives and support independent medical education.

  • Support scientific congress activities and ensure alignment of medical communications within compliance standards.

  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and medical governance requirements.

Required Skills, Experience and Education

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in a relevant medical/scientific field.

  • ~12–15 years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with strong focus in Medical Affairs.

  • Deep scientific expertise in thoracic oncology, particularly NSCLC and biomarker-driven lung cancers (e.g., RAS, KRAS, EGFR pathways).

  • Strong understanding of precision oncology and targeted therapies.

  • Experience in European or regional roles within a matrix organization.

  • Hands-on experience across core Medical Affairs activities (scientific engagement, publications, medical communications, evidence generation).

  • Proven experience supporting clinical trials (protocol review, site engagement, enrollment support, data interpretation).

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to translate complex data to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to travel across Europe and attend major international congresses.

  • Established network with thoracic oncology healthcare professionals and growing relationships with key opinion leaders.

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Experience supporting lung oncology product launches in Europe is highly desirable.
