Point of Care Testing Coordinator

The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator plays a critical role in the daily clinical operations of our laboratories. This position oversees the implementation and oversight of ancillary testing services, ensures effective training and competency, and serves as a key educational and clinical resource across the organization. The POCT Coordinator is also responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The POCT Coordinator also leads the evaluation, validation, and implementation of new point of care testing platforms and methodologies, supporting the strategic expansion of the POC program across NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and its offsite locations.
In this role, you’ll collaborate with nationally accredited laboratory professionals and clinical teams, contributing directly to accurate, timely, and lifesaving diagnostic results. Your leadership will support continuous improvement initiatives and help maintain the highest standards of laboratory performance and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee Point of Care Testing operations and ancillary testing services
- Plan, validate, and implement new point of care testing platforms and methodologies, including method verification studies, correlation analyses, reportable range and reference interval establishment, and preparation of validation packages for Laboratory Director review and regulatory submission
- Lead the strategic expansion of point of care testing at NYP Queens, including evaluation of new instruments, vendor and product assessment, scoping of clinical and operational needs with nursing and provider stakeholders, and onboarding of new test sites and Article 28 offsite locations
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training and competency documentation, and middleware (e.g., Telcor) configurations for new and existing POC tests in alignment with CAP, NYSDOH, CLIA, and TJC requirements
- Develop, implement, and monitor QC and QA programs
- Ensure regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness
- Provide education, training, and ongoing support to clinical staff
- Support performance improvement initiatives across laboratory and patient care settings
Preferred Qualifications
- ASCP certification
- Prior Point of Care Testing experience
- Experience with method validation, instrument implementation, and/or bringing on new testing in a clinical laboratory setting
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (NYSED)
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical laboratory experience
- Ability to travel to NYP Queens offsite clinics as needed
