Summary

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join the Psychiatry Consult Team in our busy Emergency Department.  This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of emergency medicine and behavioral health in a dynamic, high-volume academic medical center in Burlington, Vermont.  UVMMC is located between the shores of Lake Champlain and the foothills of the Green Mountains, where you can practice the career you love with easy access to the outdoor activities every New England season has to offer.

Primary shift coverage needs are Mon - Fri 1:30pm - 9pm and weekends between 8am - 8pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up consultations for patients presenting with acute mental health needs in the Emergency Department.

  • Work autonomously while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry attendings, residents, emergency medicine providers, social workers, mental health technicians, and medical students.

  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management and crisis intervention.

  • Coordinate care transitions with inpatient psychiatric units, outpatient providers, and community resources.

  • Contribute to documentation, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of best practices in emergency psychiatry care.

Experience

Provider experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings is required.  Ideal candidates will have clinical experience with patients in acute mental health crisis, and the demonstrated ability to navigate high-volume and high-stress situations while functioning as a solutions-oriented member of a diverse multidisciplinary care team.


Education, Licensure, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree preferred.

  • Current (or eligible) licensure an APRN from the VT State Board of Nursing or as a PA from the VT State Board of Medical Practice.

  • NP: PMHNP credential from ANCC or AANP desired.

  • PA: CAQ-Psy credential from NCCPA desired.
