Job Summary
Serves as the hospital system manager for transfusion services. Ensures that quality, regulatory and productivity standards are met. Works with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that patient needs are met. Maintains fiscal control. This position will care for patients in the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: ASCP (Medical Laboratory Scientist), SBB required.
Educational Requirements: Bachelors of Science required.
Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of blood bank/transfusion service experience. Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Assists Section lead establishing work schedule and assignments as needed to ensure adequate staffing coverage.
Develops training and competency assessments.
Complete employee reviews, productivity analysis, disciplinary actions, personnel action forms, orientation and training forms. Conduct monthly system staff meetings to address employee concerns.
Maintain all policies and procedures in compliance with the DNV, AABB and CAP. Define processes for corrective action if necessary.
Serves as a subject matter expert for the transfusion service information system and assists with validations and troubleshooting.
Develop departmental and organizational strategic goals and objectives.
Attend at least one conferences and/or lectures yearly to maintain knowledge and familiarity with advancements in technology and trends.
Monitors overall efficiency, productivity and financial indicators of the Lab. Submits monthly productivity, staffing and variance reports to director
Investigates variance reports and complaints by physicians and provide outline for corrective action.
Manages labor and supply budgets and assists in annual budget preparation.
Develop costs reduction strategies.
Manages the Blood Bank safety program. Develop, implement and monitor lab EOC and chemical hygiene plans.
Performs at least one inspection (AABB or CAP) at another facility each year.
Evaluate safety incidents and variance reports with Worker Compensation and Risk management action plans and evaluate effectiveness.
Provide continuing education and reviews overall knowledge of the staff.
Completes continuing education as required to maintain AABB assessor status (minimum of 65 hours every 2 years).
Responsible for all performance improvement and presents annual performance improvement analysis to Director.
Establishes performance improvement initiatives.
Coordinates all regulatory duties and credentialing with accreditation agencies. Reviews accreditation standards and develops plans for compliance.
Coordinate all inspection processes and functions.
Coordinates licensure renewals and correspondence with the state of Georgia and the college of American Pathologist.
Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training new employees as well as coaching, training, developing and grooming potential future laboratory leaders.
Responsible for integrating the strategic plan of the organization with the operations of the Blood Bank and in this capacity provides management oversight for the development of high quality, cost effective and integrated patient assessment operations within the laboratory.
Assist with implementation of new tests, equipment, programs and/or procedures in the Blood Bank. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality of services, operational efficiency and financial growth of the laboratory.

Manages Transfusion Services budgets across the system and continually evaluates vendors and pricing to ensure budgetary goals are achieved.
Manages and provides oversight of the Transfusion Services information system utilized across the system.
