Quality and Food Safety Senior Technologist

The Quality and Food Safety Senior Technologist role is to support Supply and R&D to deliver safe, legal, KQA compliant products through the implementation & continuous improvement of Mars Global Quality systems and standards. Ensuring compliance of the Global Food Safety & relevant Standards through the design of supporting systems, training, validation and auditing. The jobholder will have responsibility to deliver and maintain the factory wide product Quality Systems along with continuous quality improvement initiatives within the Mars manufacturing facility working with Operations, Engineering, IT, Applications, Product development, Logistics, etc.

What are we looking for?

  • BS degree Food Science, Food Technology, Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent

  • MS degree is preferred

  • 4+ years in Food Manufacturing environment in in Quality, Food Safety, Engineering or Product/Process development

  • Familiarity of food manufacturing equipment and processes
    (Microbiology and Food safety) of RTH products.

  • Regulatory audit compliance (FDA, CFIA, GFSI)

  • Awareness of shelf stable food regulations for region (FDA, CFIA)

  • Knowledge of Food Safety and Hygiene is a must

  • Strong interpersonal skills and cross-functional collaboration

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for effective communications

  • Comfortable with administering training sessions

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Ability to deal with high levels of ambiguity and able to create clarity/path forward.  

  • Up to 20% travel

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Responsible for the design and maintenance of the Quality Management Systems to comply with the Mars Global Quality Standards within the site.

  • Responsible for training related to the Quality Management programs and its validation on the shop floor.

  • Develop and implement technical and procedural control measures in relation to the Mars Global Quality Standards.

  • Owner of specific Global Quality Standards on site including gap analysis, roadmap to compliance, CI and reporting on progress towards compliance.

  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement projects with the support of Operations, Engineering, IT, Product development, etc. using Lean tools such as PDCA etc.

  • Manage overall QMS on site, ensure robust QMP processes including Q&FS Management review.

  • Responsible for External certification requirements (FSSC, Organic, Non-GMO Certification) ensuring compliance and requests associated with these external certifications.

  • Manage the CAPA process, reporting and improvement on site.

  • PRIMP Process Owner and Incident Owner. Acts as first point of contact.

  • Responsible for Document control management system.

  • Assess and approve internal concessions.

  • Local Food Law / Regulatory Compliance

  • Lead and deliver projects to improve the Quality Management system and to ensure continued compliance to the Mars Quality & Food Safety Standards.

  • Lead the site Food Safety Team to ensure food safety.

  • Leader of Food Fraud and Food defense team, along with maintaining compliance to the GFSI and Mars standards

  • Responsible for problem solving and Risk assessment for Q&FS related minor and serious incidents.

  • Key user of systems like Nexus modules, Atlas Q&FS and Veritas.

  • Lead bi-annual traceability and mock recall exercises

  • Support all Quality Team members, act as back-up for Site Q&FS Manager as required and support high performance collaboration to achieve agreed targets.

  • Lead change management at site

  • Participate and lead FMOS implementation at site from QFS team

  • Support site operations teams with operational Issues and trouble shooting.

  • Support Site Q&FS objectives deployment and Quality/Food Safety Culture initiatives.

  • Be a visible leader of Quality and Food Safety on site

  • Be backup and coverage for Q&FS Manager
